Parties and Speeches

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner skillfully delivers a speech for a special occasion through utilizing effective verbal
and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources.

GOAL: Your task is to deliver a roast speech for a friend who is moving to another country.

ROLES: You and your groupmates are friends with someone who is going to live abroad. You decided to host a send-off party
for him or her. You thought that each of you should give a roast speech to him or her while one of you will be the roastmaster.
AUDIENCE: Your audience is composed of the people who will attend the send-off party. This would include classmates and
close friends of the roastee.
SITUATION: You and your friends plan to give a send-off party for a friend who will migrate to another country. Instead of
making it an awkward and sad situation, you thought of livening it up by including roast speeches that will be delivered by
some of the roastee’s closest friends.

PRODUCT CHOICES:
1. Form a group of five.
2. Assign one of the members to be the roastmaster, while the other four will be delivering a roast speech.
3. Construct a program for the event.
4. Write the roast speeches.
5. Role play the program and speeches in front of the class.
6. Print out a copy of the program and speeches on short bond paper. Use Arial font size 12.
