Is climate change affecting Myanmar?

If so, what can be done?

Climate change is a change in the pattern of weather, and related changes in

oceans, land surfaces and ice sheets, occurring over time scales of decades or
longer. Myanmar faces many development challenges, but climate change presents
the greatest of all. While the effects of climate change are felt in many ways, it is
the threat to the country’s future development that makes it so significant.

From the observations made on the past, the on-going and future climate
changes will have many consequences in Myanmar, mainly on the economics,
productive, social and environmental sectors. Primary effect of climate change
negatively affect the natural environment. Recent cyclones of note included
Cyclone Mala (2006), Nargis (2008) and Giri (2010). Scientists have predicted that
long-term effects of climate change will include a decrease in sea ice, an increase
in permafrost thawing, heat waves and heavy precipitation, and decreased water
resources in semi-arid regions.

Myanmar’s private sector has a vital role to play in responding to climate

change but this presents great opportunities as the economy expands. Green
technology and innovation will help us accelerate toward a low-carbon economy.
The government will continue promoting green business and aligning incentives
for the private sector to introduce low-carbon technology.

Climate changes have been observed in the last decades on the global,
regional and other countries. If we still have not taken any actions to prevent the
climate changes, our mother earth will be become sick more seriously. Therefore,
let us together to protect and love our beautiful mother earth that given by god and
try to keep her healthy as we can.
