Introduction to Management (MGT101)

BSE-I Fall, 2020


Introduction:
Proper and intelligent management is the key to success. Every individual working in
any department of an organization must be well aware of the basic management
approaches and their application: The application of management theories and their
tailoring according to specific work environments is quite essential. The course
stresses on theoretical knowledge and practical problems. Main topics are: Evolution
of Management thoughts, basic management functions and their implications in this
dynamic and competitive business environment.
Objectives:
Main objectives of this course are to:
 To develop understanding of basic principles and processes behind major
Management functions.
 To develop the understanding of core Management theories.
 To develop the skills to effectively implement theoretical knowledge in practical
scenario.
 Students must have hands on experience at research (Related to course theme) for
which a research project would be offered to a group of students.

After completing this course, students will be:

Evaluation:
Letter grades will be assigned based on the university’s standard 90-80-70-60-50
grading scale. Assignments: In fairness to students who complete assignments on
time, late assignments will not be accepted. You must turn in the assignments at the
end of the lecture on the day they are due. The 25% component of the total 100 Marks
will be evaluated using quizzes, assignments and research project before the end of
Week 13 of the semester so as students have enough time for preparation for the
Terminal Examination which carries 50% marks. No deadline relaxation of any type
without a valid reason as defined in this regard will be entertained. The complete table
of evaluation is as under:

Sanghamitra & Agarwal, 6 th edition.

students in class.
