Robinson Crusoe is the main character in a novel of the same name some of which was based on a
true story. Crusoe is a sailor who survives a shipwreck in which everyone else on board dies. He lives
alone until some cannibals arrive with a man whom they are planning to kill and eat. Crusoe rescues
the man whom he decides to call Man Frida beca se that as the da on which they first met.
Friday becomes his loyal companion and together they manage to fight off other cannibals who come
to the island. Crusoe is eventually rescued and returns to England. The novel which was first
published in 1719 is one of the most popular books ever written.
