METHODOLOGY
This chapter covers the research design and methodology that will be use by the
researchers. This chapter also includes the target population, research instrument, data
collection and data processing procedure.
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study used qualitative research design to identify the preferred learning styles in
enhancing BSE English students’ skills in second language learning. In qualitative
research, non-numerical data are gathered and analyzed to better comprehend ideas,
viewpoints, or experiences (Bhandari, 2023). The participants for this study will be
selected through the use of purposive sampling and qualitative methods including
interviews, surveys and classroom observations will be utilize in order to gather the
significant data for this study. The gathered data will be analyzed using thematic
method of analysis.
The target participants for this study are the BSE English students of Pangasinan
State University (Lingayen Campus). The research will involve a total of 20 participants
who are currently enrolled in BSE English program. The participants will be selected
through the use of purposive sampling.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
The researchers used semi-structured interview as the main instrument to gather the
significant data needed for this study. Semi-structured interviews are a combination of
structured and unstructured interviews in which some questions are predefined while
others are not ( Stolle, 2022 ). Aside from semi-structured interviews researchers also
conducted a survey and classroom observation in gathering important data.
The interview was produced using thought-provoking questions that were highly
correlated with our statement of the problem and individual questions were also
constructed by the researchers in this regard. The interview questionnaire was then
distributed to the respondents in the 2nd-year Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSE)
English students of Pangasinan State University Lingayen Campus. Afterwards, when
all were completely answered, the researchers collected every single piece of the
interview questionnaire and then they tallied all the data gathered.
All the data that are gathered by researchers are analyzed using thematic method
of analysis. The researchers familiarized them selves on the gathered data in order for
them to gather the important information and to generate ideas that would be useful for
the study. The researchers also used this method in order to identify the potential theme
for the study.
