Although there was a small crowd (or should I say gathering) at the Campbell Parks and Rec Fun Day, I think that those of us who were there had a fun day. This was the rst event of this type so we know how that can be. There were lots of high schoolers who were working at different stations and all of them who walked by knew Bob Carlson (lets not forget that my information has it that he was the Citizen of the Year in Campbell in the not too distant past).. The Rotary booth that Jerry Cummings and I personed was next to Dr. Jens Chiropractic booth and both were across from Sally Howe and Bob. Bill Highley served at the Tai Chi area (no unfortunately I didnt get a picture of him tai chi-ing), Kathy Williamson was working at the Art Show area, and although he sent me an email that he would be at the tennis courts, I wasnt able to nd Jim Neal. Next year will hopefully be larger. I did, however, sign up to get emails about events at the theatre for this year so I think we can have few Rotary Socials at the theater. All of those who worked will be able to use this as a makeup meeting. David, Janine, Marv, and I met this morning to do a lessons learned (Intels name), evaluation, debrieng regarding the Valley Flavors Signature Event. We had several great ideas, and I want to have all reports, whether it be decorations, publicity, rafe prizes, restaurant and wine gathering, logistics, and all that went into the organizing and planning of this even, get put into a binder so we can have the information readily at our ngertips for the future. David has already been working on this. A couple of thoughts from this morning include: more than just wine, perhaps beer (we have a couple of breweries in town) and some soft drinks; do we want to have a bigger event, more

restaurants, more invitees? Then we have to think about a bigger place; display tables of the community work that our event supports on display in the lobby; feedback from our restaurants as to how successful this event was for them. These are just some of the ideas. If you have any more, please let me know. Also, start checking out different restaurants in the area and over the year get to know them so that when the planning for the event rolls around next year, you can ask them to participate without it being a cold call. Also remember, please frequent the restaurants that so generously supported us this year. Also, if you go, let them know that you thank them for participating in our Valley Flavors event. After all, we are all about community outreach. Remember the Avenues of Service event on Thursday, October 20. Here are some reasons to attend: Campbell Rotary will be paying for your dinner ($$$$); we can see what other clubs in our area are doing regarding, communication (Megan Hill has agreed to put us on Facebook so get her information that can go onto our site); community projects and international projects that are taking place in our District; see the different booths, Interact, all the avenues of service, YMCA/Rotary collaboration; partnership opportunities that our club might consider. Phewwww! One important thing is the Youth Protection Certication and LiveScan our club is going to be starting a new adventure of

having our own Interact Club and any time we are having anything to do with youth, the club members have to have taken and received the Certication as well as being ngerprinted for the same. Rather than run around to police departments or private companies who do ngerprinting, we can easily get it done at the conference ($25 paid for by you). This is mandatory for all new Red Badgers, not to mention to older blue badgers who have not yet done so. You know me, I want to make sure that we are in compliance with the rules and regulations. I will be passing around the sheet for you to sign up at our meeting. The nal date for Grant applications is coming soon, October 31. Bill Mahan will be talking about the new process that our club is implementing for this. If you have any great ideas for grants contact Bill Mahan. We are starting to have the opportunity to participate more, so lets get creative. David Keller and I both enjoyed the Turkey trip when we went for our Water Project that Kit started when she was president. Ravi has had dreams of a Digital Village in India. I am all for another trip!! Remember today is our Club Assembly. New ideas, new plans, and new systems. (Oh, by the way, any thoughts of having our meeting on a different day? I havent even mentioned this to the Board yet!! Dont tell.)
