INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION

Computer parts include memory chips, hard disks, flash memory cards,
external storage devices, monitors, cables, input devices and various accessories.
The computer industry is very competitive, with small players and established big
names going after huge worldwide demand. You can sell computer parts from a
physical store, an e-commerce store or an auction site.

Parts resellers, small computer manufacturers and owners looking for quick
upgrades are some of your potential customers. Starting any small business
requires a business plan and adequate financing.

The Company intends to initially focus on retrofitting the current

presentation hardware owners through “upgrade” kits. At the same time, Brilliant
Points hopes to create the latent demand necessary to motivate the makers of
presentation hardware to include the Brilliant Points software set and laser pointers
with their hardware as a replacement for the limited functionality of a remote or
other controlling device. A focus on business presentation systems could also lead
to applications in other industries, such as home entertainment, gaming, and
webcams, all very large and growing markets which could be enhanced by the
software solutions set designed by Brilliant Points.

Brilliant Points is currently developing patent pending products that make it

possible to (1) securely transmit data through the laser-pointing device (secure
pointer technology), (2) use a complex laser emitter head capable of forming
distinct colors and/or patterns (complex pointer technology), and/or (3) use
stabilization mechanisms in the pointer device to reduce “pointer jitter” during a
presentation (stable pointer technology). Secure pointer technology improves the
performance and applicability of the hardware and software, giving users the
ability to confidently use the technology developed by Brilliant Points in multiple
devices and related applications without concern for audience interference, such as
where hostile audience members attempt to scramble a presentation with their own
pointers.

Secure pointer technology also opens up opportunities within the military

community, by enhancing laser target designator devices, for example, or creating
undetectable secure optical communications links which can be sensed directly
user-to-user or indirectly via reflections off of walls, clouds, or other obstacles.
Complex pointer technology makes possible the development of multi-user
interfaces where each user has a unique secure/complex pointing device.
LOCATION
LOCATION

Decide on a business location. Computer retailers can do well online or

offline. Online stores can be initiated with low startup costs—there is little or no
inventory to purchase, and a smaller number of employees are required. Brick
and mortar computer retailers have more startup costs because they need to
purchase or lease a location, hire employees and buy inventory before opening
their doors.

If you are starting out as a home-based computer reseller, design a simple

search-enabled e-commerce site that lists the parts you have in stock and provides
an easy-to-use order entry form. If you are planning to sell parts, new and used
computers and provide in-store support services, find a store close to your target
market. For example, if you are aiming at the small-business market, find a
location in an office building or a business park.
MARKET
MARKET

Create a marketing plan. Plan your marketing and advertising for the first
year of business. Target newspapers and websites for advertising. Purchase
advertising in bulk to lower costs. Include local, regional and national events that
pertain to your buyers and products, seasonal and holiday sales periods, and
support of causes and other community concerns.

Depending on your budget, invest in newspaper ads, online ads and radio
spots to generate customer awareness. Follow up with personal contact, which
includes knocking on office doors, dropping off fliers in the neighborhood,
sending out press releases to local media outlets, aggressively promoting the store
on blogs and social media, and networking at community events organized by the
local chamber of commerce and other business groups.

Estimate the market size, using statistical data from the INDIA Business
Development. The total addressable market, which is the universe of potential
customers, for a small industrial town is going to be different from a college town.
You might need to stock parts for desktops in one market and laptops in the other.

One way to expand your market is to sell online, either via your own store,
or using a third-party platform. You might also expand your market reach by
using wholesalers, retailers, catalogue companies, direct mail, direct response or
sales reps.
DEVELOPING THE BUSINESS
DEVELOPING THE BUSINESS

Narrow your buying audience by choosing a niche market. Selling to all

age groups, industries and needs is a daunting experience, even for the most
seasoned retailer. Instead, choose an audience such as students, twenty-
somethings or older workers, and focus your computer retail business and
inventory on their needs. You can also choose to focus on a particular set of
universal needs instead of an age group or industry. Mobility, home wireless
installation or gaming are possible areas to target.

Learn about your audience. Demographics such as income level, age range,
location and employment status can narrow decisions about your business,
including where to locate your store, selecting the items to sell and the price
range of your computer products. The U.S. government provides free access to
demographics online, or you can contact your local government to discover
demographics for your area.

Connect with suppliers and manufacturers. Once you know your target
customer and what you want to sell, contact suppliers and manufacturers and find
out how to purchase from them. You may be asked to meet certain requirements,
such as buying a minimum amount of inventory or getting a line of credit from
your bank.

ANALYZE THE COMPETITION
ANALYZE THE COMPETITION

Understanding who your competition is before you launch a computer

supplies business is critical to success, according to entrepreneur
website Gabler.com. There is significant demand for computers, but there is also
no shortage of suppliers. There might be several small and large stores supplying
parts in your market, in addition to the online vendors.

If several vendors are competing for household customers, turn your

attention to the small and medium enterprise market -- the real estate broker, the
physician, local schools and medical centers. Upgrading existing systems is
usually a more cost-effective option than buying new hardware and software
systems.
