Life on land

Where to start? Where too end? There are too many problems in this world. I’m Eliana and I
will be telling you about goal 15, Life on Land.

All over the world, nearly everyone has something made from wood, yet only some don’t
take this material for granted, only few wonder where it has come from, and have the thought
about what is this doing to our planet. Did you know that 1.6 million people rely on forests?

Trees are everything, from creating oxygen to sustaining a safe shelter for animals. They let
us live and everyone wants to live a life. In Queensland alone over 20 million trees and
chopped down. This must stop! We all keep saying we can do it and yet we won’t.
Deforestation is real. Just because some of us don’t see, doesn’t mean it can’t affect us.

Katherine Sessions was a young girl who grew up in a in a forest. She didn’t believe that
there was place in the world with no trees. But when she taught in Mexico she did. And she
knew it had to change. Together, with the world by her side Mexico became one of the most
beautiful countries in the world. Imagine what we can do, if we all unite, we can make this
world safe for the next generations.

Have you ever walked into a fur shop, and seen the illegal skins of endangered animals in
coats, boots and on cold window stalls? 7,000 species of plants and animals have been traded
illegally! We are acting too slow and maybe too late! We must unite! Animals that have
lasted 60,000 years are dying because of us!

Do you ever dive through the country and see the masses of farms? The cattle, the sheep? Do
you know what happens if this continues? These animals are invasive species. Cattle and
sheep create methane that destroys the ozone layer! The land on which farms are placed in
where once flourishing, biodiverse ecosystems may be lost forever! We need to halt and
reverse land degradation!
We have been warned, if we don’t unite, we will all be lost. But if we unite, we can save our
world.
