Step 1
A 0 OK
Cut out your fabric and the chosen bow
pattern pieces. Remember to cut your
notches.

Step 2

1 cm gap Making sure all your notches line up, pin

the main part of the turban and the edge
of the band.

Using a stretch stitch (like the one

pictured), a zig zag or with your
serger/overlocker,
with a 1cm/ 3/8” seam allowance. Start at
the bottom of the hat and taper your line
off at the top middle of the turban so that
you leave a 1cm hole for the bow to go
through.

If you use a serger/overlocker, you’ll need

to trim a little of the seam allowance off as
you sew, which will mean you’ll loose
your notches. If you choose to do this, line
your sewn fabric up with the pattern
afterwards and pin to indicate where the
notches would be.

Step 3

Trim excess seam allowance off the curve

of the turban. Stop cutting before the
notches because you need to know where
these are.
Step 4

Starting with the top notch, match it to

the 2nd notch, and pin together with the
pleat edge pointing down, with the bulk
of the pleated fabric pointing up on the
inside. Repeat with the next two sets of
notches.

Step 5

Turning the turban to the right side,

hold each pleat in place and reposition
the pin to the outside, as this is the side
you’ll be sewing from.
On the outside, your pleats edge will be
pointing upwards and the bulk of the
pleat pointing down on the inside.

Step 6

With the straight stitch setting on your

machine, sew the pleats in place, sewing
2mm from the seam line.

Step 7

Fold the band in half and pin along the

bottom of the turban matching the two
center back seams.

With your machine set back on the

stretch stitch, sew with a 1cm/ 3/8” seam
allowance around the bottom of the
turban.
Trim excess off the seam.
