NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE

3rd QUARTER
Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill in School
CY 2022

Earthquake is one of the famous natural calamities that caused people died
or wounded. It cannot be detected when and where it would be happened to
anyone. This is mostly happened in places where people are hanging around
and working. Earthquake is understood by being a natural phenomenon
caused by the constant movements of the earth’s crustal plates and due to
climate change too.
Connectively, the Kawit Elementary School conducted the 3 rd Quarter
Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) in school on September 09,
2022, at exactly 9:00 AM and it was ended at 10:30 AM. This was also affirmed
by virtue of the NDRRMC Memorandum No. 21, s.2022 titled “Conduct of the
3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), which aims to
practice the “ duck, cover and hold” procedure as the minimum requirement
of the drill and to educate the pupils, teachers and school staff, parents and
stakeholders on disaster response and to test the pre-designed contingency
plans in school.
Prior to the conduct of the Earthquake Drill the SDRRM coordinator led by
the school principal sir Edsel A. larot initiated a brief Orientation regarding on
what to do before, during and after an Earthquake and steps or phases of an
Earthquake Drill so that all participants will be guided throughout the conduct
of the drill. And reminded of some precautionary measures to be strictly
observed during the drill most specially on wearing of face mask.
Thus, the actual drill started with a very loud alarm for about 1-minute
alarm, as response, the children started to execute the Ducking, covering and
holding and watching out falling objects and hiding themselves under a heavy
desk and table, when the shaking alarm stops the children together with their
class advisers started to evacuate from the classroom to the identified
evacuation areas in the school(open space areas). At the designated
evacuation area, pupils were grouped together according to the class where
they belong. While performing the said drill I observed that all participants
were doing their part well and good, as if they were in the real situation of an
earthquake. Pupils performed well and followed what their teacher instructed
them to do. Then followed by a roll call which is done by the class advisers.
Afterwards, we demonstrated a simple first aid on how to give assistance or
cater individuals with injuries by demonstrating bandaging to the victims with
the help of the assigned medics and First-Aid Team or assigned teachers who
were trained on First-Aid. Then the DRRM school coordinator announced the
termination of the earthquake drill. Pupils were returned to their respective
classrooms.
In summary, it was indeed a success.
Preparedness is the only way we can combat a disaster.
