Introduction
Welcome to Darklight Resurrected, a collection of fan-made resources designed to prolong your
torturous journey through the wold of Intermundis, taking your Darklight gaming experience to all
new levels of depravity, along with what remains of your soul.
This collection of works is intended to enrich the gaming experience for those Accursed who have
a good understanding of the game’s Advanced Rules. Furthermore, the text bound within this dig-
ital grimoire is in a constant state of flux, due to the powerful mystical source energy that flows
throughout its pages. Ergo, the contents of this tome is subject to change, without its bearer’s
knowledge, such is the fickle nature of source energy, forever seeking to achieve perfect balance
with its turbulent surroundings.
Revision: 1.8

We give thanks to the following Accursed whose Blood Wounds will forever stain this grimoire:
Liam Young, Mauro Pane, Ian Wills, Francesco Prati, Wakabayashi Genzo aka Fogarty and lastly,
Indialien Jones

Abomination Beast
Authors: Francesco Prati and Liam Young

Path of Torture
Shunned from the Cult of the Possessed for crimes against his kin, this shell of a man wages a tire-
less solitary war against his own soul, seeking to contain the beast caged within. Although, albeit
currently, he possesses the upper hand in his lone struggle, not every battle can be won in his end-
less campaign. Losing one’s self-control is a battle lost, and though he does not recall the details
of each, nevertheless, the pictures painted by their ramifications are always done so in blood.

Guardian Entity
Authors: Francesco Prati and Liam Young

Path of Bonding
This dark, brooding orphan is not unlike most other tattered-looking waifs wandering the streets of
the ruined cities of Intermundis, scavenging and steeling just to survive. Although, there is some-
thing odd about this eerie-looking child, who says nothing, leaving their scornful-glare to do all
the talking. Despite living a life of destitution on the streets, the child appears to be unscathed, as
though a Guardian Angel watches over them.

Concept Art
This little Easter egg from the Grim Warden himself never originally made it into the game, along
with the Skorn Exile. Had more stretch goals been unlocked during the game’s Kick Starter
crowd-funding campaign, things may have been very different. It was intended to be an alternate
persona of sorts, that would phase in and out of existence when required by its host or master i.e.
when needed for attacking or defending. However, when the art work later made it into the public
domain, fans of the game wanted to breathe life into this wonderful concept. Hence, in addition to
the previously unfinished Skorn Exile, the Guardian Entity later manifested within this very tome.

Skorn Exile
Authors: Liam Young and Mauro Pane

Path of Hate
Betrayed by its kin during its former life, this vengeance-driven demon now pursues a mercenary
existence, fighting purely for Crowns, Souls and the opportunity to unleash the ferocity of its bare-
ly contained hatred against those once considered family. The seething rage that festers within
this Accursed manifests itself in the form of unsightly mutations, responsible for the Skorn’s un-
predictable evolution.

Critical Hits

I Am The Law, I Am The Executioner

When using a d12 or d20 to hit, a roll of 12 or 20 respectively is considered to be a critical hit.
Although this reduces your chance of scoring a critical hit, specialist attacks made using these dice
are themselves monstrous. Indeed, critical hits caused by such attacks are devastating

Bartholemeaux
Authors: Ian Wills and Liam Young

Companions
Bartholemeaux is a Companion who joins the Accursed in Act 2. However, he can also be hired
for your dungeon runs. Companions are sometimes a good option for solo adventurers who are
finding the going a bit rough. Or perhaps the Accursed simply need a bit of extra muscle for a
given quest. Either way, Companions may be hired on an ad hoc basis for side quests. When
choosing to hire Bartholemeaux, his Level is equal to that of the current Monster Level and his
hire fee per dungeon is 50 Gold Crowns multiplied by the current Monster Level. Any number of
Companions may be hired per dungeon, provided the Accursed have the Gold Crowns to spare.
Bartholemeaux is able to Move and then Attack, and may Move for a second time if choosing to
forgo his Attack. He cannot be revived by the Cursed Heart and will flee to Town when his
Wounds equal that of his Health. Monsters favour attacking Accursed before Companions.

Exploring Small Rooms

Environment cards represent items and environments that may be found whilst adventuring.
Shuffle the Environment Cards at the start of a Quest and place them face down next to the other
card piles. At the end of the Exploration phase, if one of the 6 rooms with dimensions of 4x4 has
been revealed, draw an Environment Card and place it face up next to the Map Tile.
All effects on the card come into play immediately it is revealed. All the information you need to
use an Environment Card will be written on the card.

Difficulty Setting
Author: Liam Young

Challenge Accepted
Darklight is a tough game; it will challenge players and, sometimes, outright punish them. Whilst
there is an element of luck, this can largely be overcome with strategic character builds and sound
tactical decision making. However, mastering these means of survival, for the most part at least,
requires a good amount of experience with the game. Not everyone is able to afford the time com-
mittment required to challenge the Warden on his own terms, therefore, the following Difficulty
Settings have been devised to assist your level of play, be it casual or hard-core. Note, the effects
of each Difficulty Setting are cumulative as you work your way down the list.

Difficulty—- Sadistic
No amendments to the rules. Join Mauro Pane’s Cult of Sadism and play the game as he intended.

Difficulty—- Brutal
During dungeon runs, Permanent Death may be downgraded to Death with a single use of the
Cursed Heart. Note, this cannot be used to avoid total party kills and does not abstain the Accursed
from Permanent Death in the event of accumulating 3 Injuries - you knew it was coming and
should have dealt with it.

Difficulty—- Harsh
Starting Equipment counts as Marketplace items and may therefore be Crafted by a Blacksmith.

Difficulty—- Normal
Attribute Tests now succeed on a 5+.

Difficulty—- Gentle
All items count as Marketplace items and may therefore be Crafted by a Blacksmith.

Difficulty—- Delicate
All Journey Lengths are reduced by 1 Day.

Guiding Light
If you would like advice on efficient character builds and skill selections, it might be worth taking
a moment to check out our video guides below, which provide useful insights into setting up the
Accursed in a manner that will give you a fighting chance.

Fast Track
Author: Liam Young

Time Restrictions
The real enjoyment, when playing Darklight, comes from its superb character evolution and cam-
paign mode, be it progressing through the various Acts or stringing random dungeon runs together
as you travel the world of Intermundis. Developing characters this way is exciting stuff, nerve-
wracking too when said characters are threatened by permanent death. However, this level of play
requires a significant time investment, which, sadly, many of us are unable to commit to.
Whilst it is possible to dive straight into the action by playing The Awakening introductory quest,
this can be unsatisfying for some; starting with poor equipment and only a single skill can be a
flavourless experience, especially when repeated. For this reason, the One Shot mechanic detailed
below provides a framework, along with a satisfactory narrative, that allows you to dive straight
into the action at higher character levels, with more equipment and skills to enjoy.

Minding Your Business

Fierce wind and rain tirelessly assault the Old Crone’s weather-beaten walls, its venerable wooden
doors rattling against their worn iron hinges, trying their hardest to drown out the irksome sound
of the aging tavern’s rusted iron sign that creaks relentlessly whilst dancing to the whim of the
raging wind. A misshapen wooden bowl sits neatly on the uneven table before you. You stoop to
take another mouthful of the bowl’s hot stew, when suddenly, the doors to the tavern slam open.
You looks up, quickly discovering that it is not Intermundis’ inhospitable weather that demands
your attention in such brazen manner.
A lean-looking nobleman steps purposefully into the Old Crone, allowing the harsh wind to slam
the tavern’s doors shut behind him with an almighty thwack, demanding the full attention of all
those present.
‘Who amongst you wishes to earn some crowns?’ cries the well-dressed man.
Lowering your bowl, you stare intensely at the arrogant chevalier, trying to gain a measure of the
spoilt aristocrat responsible for disrupting your rest. Brash and unashamed, the self-important
chevalier takes several more steps towards the centre of the tavern, barking a series of eloquent
words in a pompous manner that grates against your ears.
‘There is trouble in Grimford. It is your duty to risk your lives for those above your station, so
that those of increased stature need not sully their own hands.’
‘Let the guards take care of it!’
‘There’s always trouble in Grimford - bugger off!’ cried another.
Laughter quickly fills the tavern as those present ruthlessly mock its newest occupant, smirks
stretched across their weathered faces as they viciously berate the unperturbed nobleman. You
quickly gulp down the contents of your bowl, before standing up to address the raucous audience.
‘Pay me well, and I will lend you the use of my skills. Betray me, and I will take your soul!’
You notice the chevalier’s hawk-like eyes glimpse the feint red glow beneath your worn garments.
The chevalier’s eyes widen with interest, his keen perception serving him well.

83
‘An Accursed! Excellent.’ cries the chevalier enthusiastically. ‘Equipment, training - it is yours,
whatever you need. Just see that the job is done.’
You nod in agreement before casting your gaze across the other occupants seated within the Old
Crone.
‘Who else amongst you is courageous enough to earn their keep? Which of you will follow this
one into the darkness in exchange for wealth and riches?’

Forming a Party
Select the Accursed that will make up your party and nominate a character level for each. One of
the Accursed must carry a Cursed Heart i.e. designate a party leader. Next, consult the Melee and
Ranged Attacks chart for the Accursed Guild to determine any attack bonuses applicable for your
chosen character levels. Lastly, for each even character level an Accused has passed/reached, in-
crease one of the Accursed’s attribute values by 1 or gain 4 Health and 1 Sanity. For example, a
level 5 Outcast gains +1 melee and +1 ranged attack and may select 2 attribute or Health/Sanity
increases.

Gearing Up
The chevalier will award 100 gold crowns per Accursed level, for each Accursed in the party,
which may be shared amongst the Accursed as they see fit. For example, a party consisting of a
level 3 Exorcist, accompanied by a level 2 Blood Witch and a level 2 Outcast, would collectively
receive 700 gold crowns.
Each Accursed starts with its designated starting equipment, including heirloom, which may be
sold, where permitted, to create a small amount of additional income - the Accursed have retained
these items during their travels.
A number of skill cards, equal to their chosen character level, may be selected for each Accursed,
obeying the normal skill card prerequisites. For example, if you chose to play a level 3 Exorcist,
you may select up to 3 skill cards from the Demonologist branch.
The Accursed may spend up to 3 days in Grimford Town preparing for their quest - the chevalier
will wait no longer. During this time, the Accursed may lodge at the chevalier’s noble house, with
full access to its facilities. In addition, the chevalier will pay for any additional expenses that the
Accursed may incur from town events. Furthermore, the chevalier is able to send squires to the
marketplace on behalf of the Accursed - squires have a haggle score of 19, being well liked by the
local community.

Return on Investment
Using the Quest Book, roll for a random quest. The Accursed must complete the assigned quest.
There is no reward for completing the selected quest; the Accursed must hand over any quest
room rewards to the chevalier upon completion. Furthermore, half the amount of loot, rounding
up, found by the Accursed during the quest, including rare loot, may be retained. The remainder
must be given to the chevalier.

Ship Travel
Authors: Ian Wills + Liam

Instructions
The Accursed may choose to travel the seas during their journeys, allowing them to reach distant
lands and new continents scattered across Intermundis. Journeying this way requires the use of
known Sea Lanes and will bring the Accursed into contact with weather-beaten crew, or worse
still, pirates!

Sea Lanes
Like travelling by land, Ship Travel takes many days. However, rather than drawing from the
Journey card deck, you will instead roll 2d6 on the Ship Events chart detailed below to determine
what happens on any given day. Whilst travelling, you still need to roll 2d6 each day for the
Dread Wheel. Keep track of the total number of days travelled.
You may travel by ship between ports using the following routes:
Grimford to Rivonne - 3 days | Grimford to Balduin - 12 days
Arimia to Aledria - 8 days
Delanois to Salercia - 12 days | Delanois to Southgates - 3 days
Portenia to Salithia - 6 days | Portenia to Arimia - 16 days
Salercia to Portenia - 4 days
Salithia to Arimia - 10 days
The above are standard journey lengths for sea lanes between ports - see map of Intermundis on
rear cover - which may be sailed in either direction.
89

longer fatigued.

gratitude. Gain 1 Rare Loot card (only once per journey), else gain 1d6x50 crowns.
9-11 | One of the crew - The crew see you as one of their own and invite you to join them. Roll
1d6 for each Accursed:

suffer 1d3 severe wounds).

Restless Spirit
Author: Liam Young

The Defiant Dead

Sometimes, death comes knocking so abruptly that those blessed by its comforting embrace refuse
to accept the inevitable gift bestowed upon them. Refusing to move on, their dogged souls fool-
ishly manifest an ethereal resemblance of their former selves. They desperately cling, albeit bare-
ly, to the physical plane, unable to accept their lot and becoming increasingly agitated the longer
they inhabit their new forms. In their transient state, Restless Spirits seek out life, believing that
absorbing the essence of others will allow them to reconstruct their physical forms, in the hope of
reconnecting with their former lives. However, the reality is very different. These deluded souls
in fact never return from the abyss. They roam Intermundis, haunting the places they once called
home, growing increasingly restless with the passage of time and evermore hostile.

Vile Gobbler
Authors: Liam Young and Mauro Pane

Children of Gularoth
Vile Gobblers are easily identified by their bloated bellies that contain a potent cocktail of noxious
gasses. This highly combustible fuel is a product of a lifetime of gorging on whatever vile insects
these demons chance upon within their underground habitats. Slowly digested within the bellies
of the Vile Gobblers, the gradual build-up of gas released by this poor source of nourishment
swells their host’s abdomen. Once the process of fermentation is complete, the Vile Gobblers ex-
plode violently, giving birth to a conflagration of noxious flammable vapour igniting everything in
close proximity. These unsavoury demons will charge towards anything daring to disturb their
continued feeding cycle, sinking filthy rusted daggers into their swollen bellies to hasten their de-
mise and that of any interlopers seeking to disrupt their putrid gorging.

Act 2
Author: Ian Wills

Instructions
This campaign is designed to continue the events of Act 1 from the Quests book. It is therefore
strongly advised that you complete Act 1 before attempting Act 2. This campaign will allow the
Accursed to travel the seas and visit strange new places, as such, objective card explanations for
the Cathedral of Salercia are detailed below and Ship Travel is used, as described in the Ship
Travel section above. Furthermore, Act 2, Dungeon 11 - Sea Titan, uses four Companions found
in the Companions section above.

Cathedral of Salercia

Objective Card #1
You look down at the piece of parchment in your hands and the letters rearrange themselves to
form words you can understand.
The beast in the sanctuary is not of this world.
It’s demonic birth was ushered here by a mortal.
Read these words; Haku, vren, platheau, magna.
As you read the words a wave of tranquillity washes over you and your head becomes clearer.
Remove all sanity you have suffered.

Objective Card #2
You look down at the piece of parchment in your hands and the letters rearrange themselves to
form words you can understand.
It was brought here by a man who is not what he appears to be.
You may have once called him a friend, but beware for he has his own motives.
Read these words; Cila, farah, lento, bejorn.
As you read the words a warm wave crashes over you and your body feels rejuvenated. Remove
all wounds you have suffered.

Objective Card #3
You pull aside the robes of the cultist leader and find a pendant bearing the symbol of the Grim
Cabal. Taking it from his body, you suspect that whoever is behind that has followed you from
Grimford and whatever you’re about to face in the sanctuary is only going to be the beginning of
this.
