Requesting – Any Vocalization – Prompted Or Unprompted

Goal: Increase verbal requesting for varied items by presenting numerous trials throughout the session

Instructional Procedure:
 Contrive situations: Present the student with opportunities to request. Wait 3 seconds for a response. If the student mands by turning on his/her
voice praise and follow through with the delivery of the preferred item that the student requested
 If student does not mand, provide a verbal model (e.g., “[NOUN]”). The student should TURN ON HIS/HER VOICE – AND GET THE ITEM
 If the student does not verbalize, withhold the item and try again later
 Differentially reinforce trials with least amount of prompting

Frequency Per Hour of Prompted and Unprompted Verbalizations


 Use a clicker – Count each opportunity for a mand (a transfer trial/error correction procedure counts as only one mand)
 Divide # of mands per length of session to get COUNT PER HOUR
