Ref.: Appointment of Fr Michael Kazembe MBANDAMA as ZMB Provincial

Superior

I would like to pass to you all cordial greetings from Fr Alphonse OWOUDOU, our Regional. He
also thanks you all for your faithful and numerous participations in the Consultation for the
appointment of the new ZMB Provincial Superior. The Rector Major, the Very Rev. Fr Angel A.
FERNANDEZ with his Council made the appointment of Fr Michael Kazembe MBANDAMA as
the next ZMB Provincial Superior for the years 2023-2029.

Fr Michael was born on 08.09.1971 in Solwezi, ZAMBIA to a family of Mr Joseph MBANDAMA

and Mrs Josephine KUNAKA. He was baptized on 04.10.1972 in St. Francis church, in Solwezi and
was confirmed on 08.09.1996 in Chingola–Chiwempala. He finished Solwezi Secondary Technical
School in 1992 and he came to know the Salesians of Don Bosco in Chingola since his studying in
Don Bosco Training Centre in Metal Fabrication and Welding Department from 1993. He entered
our Pre-novitiate in Lusaka on 01.09.1996 and he competed the Novitiate in Moshi with a first
profession on 15.08.1998. He studied philosophy for one year in the Salesian Philosophate in Moshi
and he returned home.
He was readmitted to the Salesian Congregation by the Rector Major, Rev. Fr Pascual CHAVEZ
VILLANUEVA, (Prot. n. 274/2002, dated 13.11.2002) and he renewed his profession on 31.01.2003
in Lusaka–Makeni. He went to AFC Province to complete his study of “Philosophy and Science of
Education” in Lubumbashi at L’Institut de Saint Jean Bosco from 2003 to 2005. He continued
Theology in Saint Francois de Sales in Lubumbashi in 2006 up to 2008. He made his perpetual
profession on 05.07.2008.
He returned to Zambia to complete his theology studies at St Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka,
ZAMBIA and he obtained Bachelor of Sacred Theology from Pontifical Urbaniana University. He
was ordained a priest on 12.06.2010 at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus in Lusaka, ZAMBIA.
He has been since ordination working in Lilongwe, MALAWI at Don Bosco Youth Technical
Institute as a Principal. In 2014, Fr Michael participated in the 27th General Chapter in Rome as a
ZMB Delegate. He has been a TVET Provincial Delegate for ZMB, an office he has treasured a lot.
In 2015, Fr Michael became a Provincial Councillor, which he finished in August, 2021. Since 2017,
he has been a Rector of the community in Lilongwe alongside being the Principal of Don Bosco
Technical Institute (College), where we also have Pre-novitiate.
Fr Michael Mbandama is a Master of Science (MSc) in Leadership and Change Management under
Leeds Beckett University in the United Kingdom, formally Leeds Metropolitan University.
We all accompany Fr Michael K. MBANDAMA with our prayers and we wish him a fruitful and
committed service as the next ZMB Provincial Superior, which he will undertake on the 2nd of
February, 2023, the day of his installation in Lusaka as the ZMB Provincial Superior.
May our Mother, Mary Help of Christians guide, support and protect him.
