1. GENERAL
1.1 Purpose of the method statement
The main purpose of this method statement is to outlines general methods proposed to
reinstate of peeling and damaged paint on surfaces of steel material such as ductile iron
grating cover, iron flap gates and etc.
1.2 Definition
⚫ Engineer: SETEC
2. WORK SCOPE
This method statement covers steps to be followed for reinstating of damaged painting on
material surfaces on site.
3. WORK METHODOLOGY
3.1 General requirements
In the event that the protective system should sustain damage prior to installation, then the area
concerned shall be cleaned back to bare metal and the protection system be re-applied for the
full thickness.
Work shall not proceed when the steel surfaces are wet or the ambient temperature, or dew
point is below that recommended by the paint manufacturer. Repair materials shall be stored,
mixed and applied strictly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
3.2 Preparation
Before beginning a work of repairing damaged Coating, these following points shall be taken
into account and verified:
▪ All painting system to be used shall be as per project specifications and requirements;
▪ Every possible precaution shall be taken to ensure that the damaged surface shall be
thoroughly clean, dry and free from condensation, moisture, dust, oil, grease, rust, dirt
and other contaminants before application of touch up process;
Page 6 of 16
Cote d’ Ivoire Terminal
▪ Method of application;
This cleaning process shall be mandatory, whereby the surface to be painted shall be
completely and free from burrs, rust, loose scale, dirt, dust, grease, oil and other foreign matter
deleterious and harmful to paint by using hand wire brushes. After preparation of substrate
surface, any generated dust or dirt shall be removed and a layer of primer applied before any
corrosion or recontamination occurs, normally within 4 hours after cleaning.
1. Primer coating
SIGMACOVER™ 280 shall be used as a primer coating as is a universal epoxy anticorrosive
primer, based upon pure epoxy technology. Is the primer used in protective coating systems
for steel and non-ferrous metals, and can be overcoated with two-component polyurethane
coatings, etc.

metals;
▪ Good adhesion to steel, galvanized steel, non-ferrous metals;
▪ Good flow and wetting properties, water and corrosion resistance;
▪ Suitable for touching up of weld seams and damages of epoxy coatings during
construction;
▪ Excellent recoat ability;
▪ Can be overcoated with most alkyd, chlorinated rubber, vinyl, epoxy and two-
component polyurethane coatings;
▪ Suitable on wet blast cleaned substrates (damp or dry);
▪ Compatible with well-designed cathodic protection systems;
▪ No induction times;
▪ Can be applied by air spray, brush or roller;
▪ See below for more information on surface preparation, application details and curing
times.
