Researcher: Mon Paul Benedict L. Castillo

Participant: P9 from BSED 4th year
Date and Time of Interview: 13 April 2023/ 1:57 PM

(Yes sure.)
Reseacher: the interview is about the effects of social media exposure to the mental
health of college students; central question number one question is your mental health?
P9: So far, so good po.
sakit. (So far, so good. Okay, good. But I'm getting a little sick because of this season, I
feel hot and cold so I get asthma because that's my disease.)
Researcher: For the last four weeks, did you feel tired out for no good reason? Please
elaborate.
P9: Yeah.
(Yes. Maybe
because of the amount of work, the amount of detailed lesson plans, the understanding
not only here at school but also at home when you go home, like that.)
Researcher: How often did you feel nervous? What are the usual reasons?
P9: Actually, often did I feel nervous kapag meron akong required na gagawin, for
example meron kami dapat paghahanda for final demo. Ayan, yun yung mga ma-fe-feel
mo yung talagang nervousness of your body. (Actually, I often did feel nervous when I
had something required to do, for example we had to prepare for the final demo. There,
those are the ones you can feel the real nervousness of your body.)
Researcher: Did you feel so nervous that nothing could calm you down?
P9: Oo. (Yes.)
Researcher: For the last four weeks, did you feel hopeless?
P9: Hindi naman because I know and I believe that God is always with us, always with
me, kaya ayon hindi ko naman na fe-feel na hopeless ako dahil andiyan si God and
second andiyan din yung family ko. (It's not because I know and I believe that God is

always with us, always with me, so I don't feel hopeless anymore because God is there
and second my family is there too.)
Researcher: For the last four weeks, did you feel so sad that nothing could cheer you up?
(It's not because, like I told you
earlier, my family is there, my friends are there to cheer me up, to motivate me so that I
can better overcome my bad feelings.)
Researcher: For the last four weeks, how often did you feel worthless? What are the
usual reasons?
P9: So far, wala namang rason para maging worthless. Wala naman akong
nararamdaman nag anon sa ngayon. (So far, there is no reason to be worthless. I don't feel
anything like that right now.)
Researcher: Can you share your exposure and utilization of social media?
(Actually, I'm not very good at social media.
Only if necessary for example because we are already teaching, only when the teacher
has a chat on the messenger, our CT has concerns for the students. But scrolling all day
long on Facebook, no.)
Researcher: What social media do you usually use most?
P9: Facebook. (Facebook.)
Researcher: How much time in a day do you spend using social media?
P9: 30 minutes. (30 munites.)
Researcher: What are your usual activities done on social media?
P9: Information. (Information.)
Researcher: Is there a feeling that you cannot sustain or complete the day without using
social media? When and how?
(Not really. But it's also necessary because that's
where we communicate with the children, with your CT, with your classmates.)

Researcher: How do social media affect you?

P9: Para sa’kin naapektuhan ako ng social media through the information na nakikita ko
habang nag-scroll ako. (For me, social media has affected me through the information I
see as I scroll.)
Researcher: In what ways that social media affect your thoughts? How about your
decision and mental health?
P9: Minsan kasi may mga good thoughts and bad thoughts, or information, na nakikita sa
(Sometimes there are good thoughts and bad thoughts, or information, that can be seen on
social media—for example, there are those who should not be believed, there are also
those who should be believed. So sometimes, you shouldn't trust social media. You can't
always trust what you read on social media because there is a lot of fake news on social
media, but there is also good news. That's why we can see the news that is really accurate
only on the links that really report what is true. But on social media we should be aware
that there is a lot of fake news.)
Researcher: Does your life be more productive when using social media? Why or why
not?
P9: Sometimes. (Sometimes.)
Researcher: Do you feel happy and excited when using social media? Why or why not?
P9: Yes, of course.
(Yes, of
course. Because you'll see the posts of your friends—even if you're not your friends—
you'll see posts that make you happy.)
Researcher: Are there instances in that you based your decision and thoughts on Social
media?
Kasi private
‘yon. (No nothing. My decisions, I don't share them on social media. Because that's
private.)
Researcher: As a student, based on your experience, how do you perceive the influence
of social media on your mental health?

express tayo ng throughts and feelings naten, then through social media nakakapag
communicate tayo sa isa’t isa malayo ka man mabilis kitang tawagan, mabilis kita ma-
contact, mamessage. (It's time-consuming, and in terms of mental health because for
example, you spend 2 hours on the cell phone and your head hurts like that, so it's like
you're tired, it's okay. But all you did was use social media. But the effect of this on you
is that your body becomes numb, you get tired of that. But social media is important
because you can find a lot of information on him, then through social we can express
throughts and feelings, then through social media we can communicate with each other
even if you are far away I can call you quickly, I can contact you quickly, will message.)
