A Tale of Marinduque

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of: Pre-colonial Philippine


literature as a means of connecting to the past; various reading styles; ways of
determining word meaning; the sounds of English and the prosodic features of speech;
and correct subject-verb agreement.

Performance Standard: The learner transfers learning by: showing appreciation for the
literature of the past; comprehending texts using appropriate reading styles;
participating in conversations using appropriate context- dependent expressions;
producing English sounds correctly and using the prosodic features of speech effectively
in various situations; and observing correct subject- verb agreement.

Learning Competencies: EN7RC-I-e-2.15: Use non-linear visuals as


comprehensive aids in content texts
EN7SS-I-e-1.2: Transcode orally and in writing the
information presented in diagrams, charts, table, graphs,
etc.
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, 95% of the students should be able to:
a. Read intensively to find answers to specific questions;
b. Organize information from the materials viewed;
c. Transcode orally and in writing the information presented in diagrams, charts, table,
graphs, etc.; and
d. Express appreciation in the passage read.

III. PROCEDURE

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
o Opening prayer
o Checking of attendance
o Daily Routine. Classroom management and management of learner’s
behavior (Objective 5 PPST 2.6.2) Instruct the learners to arrange their
seats, pick up pieces of paper, sit properly. Remind learners to always be
careful.
o Presentation of the lesson objectives.
o Introduction of the new lesson.

o A Tale of Marinduque is a tale about how the island of


Marinduque got its name. It further tells how the other islets were
formed.

B. MOTIVATION
o Present the following questions to the learners.
 How do you make friends?
 How do you become friends with your best friend?
o Elaborate to the learners that the new lesson will encourage them
to be more appreciative with their friends and how special a bond
is with their friends.

C. LESSON PROPER
o Activity
o With a partner, the learners will find the meaning of the following words
and use them in a sentence correctly:
 Diversion
 Swiftly
 Gallant
 Innumerable
 Persistent
o Share answers with the class.

o Analysis
o The learners will read the story silently.
o The teacher will facilitate discussion of the story.
o The teacher will also let the students answer comprehension
questions.

o Abstraction
 Deepen the discussion with the following input.
 In a group of five, let the learners list down all the characters that they
remember from the story and write a remarkable impact that they have
done.
 Also, the students will select one character and explain their importance
in the story.

o Application
 Read the selection once more and share to the class the moral lesson of
the story.
 Share also the important events from the story that they find interesting.
 Let them relate it with their lives.

o Assessment
o With a partner, let the learners answer the following questions:
1. How did the friendship of Maring and Duque start?
2. What was Maring’s problem at the start of the story?
3. Why was Duque not able to join the race?

o The students will be grouped with 7 members, each group will be given
tasks and should prepare for the next meeting.
