General Description

Both automatic and manual starting of fire pump is provided. configuration used is Wye
Delta Reduce Voltage Starting (Open Circuit Trantition). Motor used is Star Delta
Wound Squirrel Cage type.

Once actuated, the controller starts the motor on the wye connection with approxi -
mately 58% of full line voltage to the motor windings. The starting torque and
approximate 33% of its normal starting current is drawn. After preset time, the motor is
automatically connected in delta and full voltage is providedto the motor windings.
During transitions from wye to delta connection, motor circuit is open.

The wye- delta controller are useful in areas where the power source is inadequate to
supply the full starting current without objectionable voltage drop.

COMPLIANCE - Fire pump controller are build to meet or exceed the requirements of
the latest editions of NFPA-20 installation of Centrifugal fire pumps.

ENCLOSURES- The enclosures are NEMA Type 2, drip proof, for installation in areas
protected from direct sunlight with an ambient temperature range of 5 C to 4 C.

Operation
Each controller is equipped with a running period timer. A drop in system pressure will
actuate the controller. The pump will keep running unless manual stop is actuated.

Ensure both (ISOLATING SWITCH) and CIRCUIT BREAKER are in the on position and
the (EMERGENY MANUAL START) is in the “off” positions.

Automatic Start

In the event of a fire / pressure drop below presetable value the pump start
automatically

Manual Start

To start pump manually push START button

Emergency Manual Start

Push emergency start handle and turn clockwis to lock on. Emergency mechanism will
close the main contractor mechanical, independent of any control circuits

Manual Shut Down

Press STOP push button to stop. If the demand signal is still present, the pump will
restart once push button released.
Manual Shut down

Circuits breaker is to be switched to “off” position. Return (EMERGENCY START

HANDLE) to the “off” position.
