all supervisory and nonsupervisory employees involved with manriding opera

40 GENERAL
4.1 Overthe years, many severe injuries and fetaliies have occurred in the oil and gs
industry while performing manniding operations. Regardless of how frequently
this as is performed, it shall never be considered as a routine operation,
50 PROCEDURE
5.1 Manriding Operations should be avoided whenever possible and omly undertaken
when an essential task must be performed and tere is no practical and safe ater
hatve other than maniding to accomplish the tsk.
52 All manriding operations require the planning and risk reduetion process of a
Task-Specific Job Safty Analysis ISA). When lie-ofsight vision is fully or

tional hazards must be identified and risks eliminated / mitigated and docu

5.3 This job shal only be performed under the contol of Permit to Work (PTW).
54 The Manriding Checklist, Form SAF-O7, shall be completed on site and the
checklist supplements the permit. Completing both the manrding checklist and

5.5.1 The hoist control lever shall astomaticaly return to neutral upon release

5.5.6 Manriding operations shall never be performed if there is rotating / mow-
ing equipment inthe vicinity that creates a risk of personnel becoming en
tangled or crushed,

voice range, ofthe hoist operator with a clear view ofthe person inthe rid-
ing ames.
All visual signals and audible communications shall be continuous, eg,
“Up-Up-Up" oF "Down-Down-Down” of “Stop-Stop Stop". Should sis-
nals oF communication stop, the hoist operator shall immediatly sop
‘movement af the minrder and shall not resume movement until eleaty
instucted,
If the faggcr/sgnalman is notable to effectively relay instructions tothe
hoist operstor, the use of radio communications i acceptable. Ensure the
radio batteries are fully charged and interference from ater radios is not a
factor. Commands given by radio shal also be continuous “Up-Up-Up" oF
*“Stop-Stop Sip”.
‘When radio communication i the primary method of audible communica-
tion, a method of supplemental visual signals must be in place as an aler-
‘ative method of communication and to provide the immediate "Stop"
