After being ordained, Zamora handled
parishes in Marikina, Pasig and Batangas.
Why were they executed?

The three priest accused of being a


mastermind of the mutiny in Cavite led
by La Madtrid. The priests were charged
with treason and sedition by the Spanish
Military Tribunal. There is a dispute

The accusation that three priests were leaders
of the Cavite Mutiny likely stems from their
involvement in advocating for Filipino rights
and reforms during the late 19th century. The
three priests in question were Mariano Gómez,
José Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora. They were
prominent figures in the Filipino clergy and
known for their advocacy for social and
political change within the Spanish colonial
system.

aimed to advocate for greater Filipino
control and representation within the
Catholic Church, specifically in the
administration of parishes and the clergy.
The movement sought to secularize the
clergy by allowing Filipino secular priests
(those not belonging to a religious order) to
take on more significant roles in the Church.
Contrary to popular belief, four
people, not just three, were
executed. Before the three priests
was a man named Zaldua, also
implicated in the Cavite Mutiny,
and judged guilty
