LEVELS OF

MOMENTUM
The P R OV E N framework to
Rai se Your Habi ts Beyond R amadan
If you want to hold on to the good habits you picked up in
Ramadan, and to accelerate the manifestation of Dream
Duas you made, you need a framework that’s proven to
work. Look, Duas require action (tie your camel!) and action
requires a system of success. This framework is the shortest
path to taking someone from “falling off the bandwagon”
to staying consistent all-year round, in sha Allah.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

The problems of Prophet
Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬and the Sahaba
were not solved by miracles.
They were solved by strategy.

This is good news for the Muslim. What distinguishes

Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬from the prophets before him is
that the Seerah is based on intelligent strategy and not
miracles like that of Eesa and Musa (alayhum assalam).

When you strategize and take action, have Taqwa in what

you do, persevere and endure... that’s when Allah
guarantees your success.

“O you who have believed, persevere and endure and

remain stationed and be mindful of Allah (taqwa) that you
may be successful.” Aali Imran:200

If you’re waiting on motivation to lead you there, then

you’re standing on the wrong foundation. How awesome
would it be if you took action even when you’re not
motivated?

To outdo whatever’s holding you back you need a solid

SYSTEM. A system that creates a lifestyle that pulls you
without effort.

When I look back at the Dream Duas (think lofty goals) that
didn’t manifest for me, the pattern was that I took little or
inconsistent action to get there.

The exciting part is not about arriving at your destination -

it’s about WHO you become along the way and the habits
that become part of who you are at the core.

This is the 9-level framework proven to work for hundreds

of students who once struggled with staying consistent post
Ramadan.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

1 THE DREAM
OUTCOME

Imagine you’re driving on a windy

road on a dark, stormy night - and
you can’t see past the dim headlights
in front of you. You don’t know
where you’re going or how far
you’ve got.

This is how so many start their

post-Ramadan journey. No idea what
the destination looks like and as a
result won’t know if they’ve ever
arrived.

Get clear on what your dream

outcome is before setting habit
trackers or buddy systems.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP

Write down your dream outcome. What will it look like

when you’ve arrived?

These can be as big and lofty as you’d like them to be.

Think about what you want to experience, feel,
accomplish, and be this year.

Examples:
- Pray behind the Imam every Fajr Salah
- Own a Nissan GT-R
- Wedding in Greece
- Take my family to Umrah

MY DREAM OUTCOME IS:

_______________________________________________

_______________________________________________

_______________________________________________

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

2 IDENTITY

Those who commonly say “I’m a

procrastinator” or “I’m lazy” or “I’m
bad with money” have
self-sabotaged right out the gate.

What if instead you said, “I’m an

athlete” or “I’m a righteous person”
or “I’m a Hafidha in training”?

How you self-identify is a choice.

Verbalize it, believe it, and you will
eventually become it - because
raising your habits requires an
identity shift.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP 2
Think of a type of person who has no problem achieving
your dream outcome. Now own that identity, wear that
hat - it’s who you are now.
Examples:
- I am an establisher of Salah

- I am an athlete
- I am a Hafidha in training
- I am a highly eligible bachelor

MY IDENTITY STATEMENT:

IAM _________________________________

IAM _________________________________

IAM _________________________________

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

3 ACCOUNTABILITY

What excuse do you commonly give

yourself for not doing what you want
to do? Who or what do you blame?

Many people when making Dua will

sit back and wait... and if nothing
happens or nobody comes
knocking... then the Dua wasn't
heard?

What if I told you - nobody is

responsible for making things
happen in your life except you.

Say it with me "I’m responsible.

Nobody is accountable except me."

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP 3
Who or what external factor do you blame for why you
aren’t achieving your dream outcome yet?

Now flip it and write your accountability statement.

Example:

- Nobody other than me is responsible for establishing

my prayer on time
- Nobody else can work this body out except me
- It’s my responsibility to get out there and seek eligible
bachelors
- I am responsible for growing my business

MY ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

I am responsible for __________________________

Nobody other than me is responsible for ____________

I am accountable for ____________________________

It’s my responsibility to __________________________

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

4 HABITS

The most beloved deeds to Allah are

those that are consistent even if little.
This is the honey pot. Consistent good
deeds with a purpose have a
compound effect and bring results.

By definition, habits are consistent -

and they only take 2 minutes (or less)
to do. This is what will make your
journey pleasant and create a “pull
life” where you’re taking action even
if you’re fresh out of motivation.

These non-negotiable habits are what

will make you believe your super
identity.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP 4
Go back to your identity - the person who will
undoubtedly achieve your dream outcome. What are
their habits?

Remember, these are action steps that take 2 minutes or

less to complete. What will you do, when will you do it,
and where will you be when you do it?

Example:
- I will open my Mushaf after Fajr Salah while still sitting
in my salah spot
- At 10:30 pm every night, I will turn off my phone and
go to bed
- At the 1st of every month, I will invest 20% of my salary
- I will put on my gym shoes after I brush my teeth in the
morning

WRITE DOWN 3 HABITS (What, When, & Where)

1. ____________________________________________

2. ____________________________________________

3. ____________________________________________

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

5 VITAL
BEHAVIOR

The first Takbeer (“Allahu Akbar”)

triggers the rest of your Salah.
Likewise a vital behavior is a single
moment in which the smallest act
that triggers all habits you listed
above.

It’s like the first domino in the

domino effect. If it happens then it
80% guarantees everything else will
flow and if it doesn’t then it 80%
guarantees none of it will flow.

If a habit takes 2 minutes or less to

complete, a vital behavior takes only
a moment. It has to happen
unconsciously like brushing your
teeth or having breakfast.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP 5
This will require experimenting to truly determine the
root of all habits - that single act in a single moment
which will trigger the rest. Something non-negotiable
that you do without conscious effort.

Example:
- I will place the Mushaf next to my place of Salah so I
can open it after I’m done praying Fajr. Opening will
trigger recitation.
- I will set a ping notification at the 1st of every month to
open my investment app
- I will place my gym shoes where my feet land when I
get up in the morning
- I will lay out my Salah clothes the night before

MY VITAL BEHAVIOR IS

_______________________________________________

6 BUCKETS &
SCOREBOARD

What you measure grows. How will

you quantify your journey towards
your dream outcome?
And how will you know you’re
making progress with the habits
you’ve chosen?

Back to the driving in the dark

analogy - this is your GPS,
speedometer, and gas gauge so
you’re holding yourself accountable
on a quarterly and weekly basis.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP 6
Determine your quantifiable results in quarterly buckets. If your
dream outcome is to buy a car or go for Umrah, then how much
are you saving in 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months?
If your dream is to get married, how many profiles have you
reviewed or events attended in 3 months, 6 months, 9 months,
and 12 months?

Then on a weekly basis, what’s your scoreboard to determine

you’re on track (green), slightly off track (yellow), totally off
track (red).

Example
- Green (read Quran 5 times this week), Yellow (3 times)
and Red (2 or less)
- Green (invested 20% of income), Yellow (10%) and Red
(5% or less)
- Green (attended 3 mingle events), Yellow (1 mingle
event) and Red (no events)
- Green (drank 11 cups of water), Yellow (5 cups) and
Red (4 or less)

7 VEHICLE

When the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬and Abu Bakr

made the Hijrah, they didn’t go alone.
They hired an expert guide who could
take them through the desert in stealth -
and he wasn’t even Muslim. He was their
“vehicle” along the journey so they could
arrive at their destination.

The best kinds of vehicles are “turnkey” -

they do it for you while you can turn off
your brain and excuses. A good analogy
is getting on a plane and going to sleep -
you’ll arrive at your destination anyway.

Otherwise, doing it yourself will take you

longer with many failures along the way.
A vehicle can be a mentor, a coach, a
course, a book, or a proven system.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP 7
Choose the vehicle that will drive you to your dream
outcome the fastest.

Examples:
- P90X for a fitness goal
- Automated investments like the Wahed App
- A spiritual mentor or coach
- Quran school
- Marriage counselor to improve your marriage

8 PHASES &
PATTERNS

This is where the self-sabotage and falling off

bandwagons happen. When you get this part right,
you’re set to go for long-term behavioral
transformation.

We all have a set of patterns and phases for each part

of our day. Take for example a wake up routine - the
alarm goes off, we bargain for more time, hit the
snooze button, internally we say “5 more minutes”, go
to the bathroom begrudgingly, pray Fajr, and go back
to sleep.

But those who pray at the Masjid have a different set

of patterns altogether. They prepare 15 minutes before
the Adhan, internally they say “I get to worship my
Lord”, they’re eager to walk to the masjid, and remain
seated after the Salah to complete their adhkar.

This is emotional as much as it is physical. Pay

attention to how you feel and your internal dialogue at
each phase.

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP 8
When trying to accomplish a goal, start a habit, or
complete a task, determine the 4 phases of your cycle.

For each phase, ask yourself “what am I feeling?” and

“what is my internal dialogue?”. When you recognize the
patterns, you’ll be able to foresee this in advance and
make the necessary adjustments. Recognize your
feelings, change your internal dialogue and adopt a new
strategy to stay the course.

Example:
- Old phases:
- 1. I hear the adhan while knee-deep in work
- 2. I snooze it and say let me complete this task first
- 3. I lose track of time and forget
- 4. I rush in the last 5 minutes filled with guilt
- New phases:
- 1. I set a timer to complete tasks before adhan
- 2. When timer goes off 5 min before adhan, I stop
all activities and go make Wudhu
- 3. While making Wudhu, I remind myself that Allah
is the controller of time
- 4. I hear the Adhan and pray right on time filled
with gratitude

9 VALUES

The final piece of the puzzle is what you value most. For
some, it isn’t about discipline or consistency; it’s about a
mental handbrake blocking them from the dream.

Take for example a friend of mine who for years said he

wanted to get married. Finally I sat him down and asked
him, “what do you value most in life?” After a series of
questions, he arrived at “freedom”.

Now for him, marriage is the opposite of freedom. So

whenever it came down to finalizing a marriage, he’d
pull out because it meant sacrificing what he valued
most.

So I told him to reorder his values. Value

companionship or love or children more than freedom -
or reframe how he can achieve freedom through
marriage.

Not long after our conversation, he called me and said,

“Muhammad, I got married!”

9 LEVELS OF SHAWWAL MOMENTUM

ACTION STEP 9
Write down your top 3 values in life in order of what you
value most.

How are your values facilitating or preventing you from

achieving your dream outcome? How can you reorder,
replace, or reframe these values so that it unlocks your
dream outcome?

Example:
- Old: I value freedom. New: I feel freedom when I
complete my memorization.
- Old: I value peace when I’m without the kids. New: I
value peace and connection when I see my kids having
fun.
- Old: I value laziness & comfort food. New: I feel happy
and energetic when I nourish my body.
- Old: I value security. New: I value vulnerability.

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER
If you’ve read this far, then you know how
powerful this system is and what it can do to
rework who you are at the core.

Allah promises, “Indeed, Allah will not change

the condition of a people until they change
what is in themselves.” Al-Ra’d:11.

Understand that arriving at your dream

outcome is a single moment, while 99% of
your time is spent on the journey. So why not
enjoy and love the journey? Respect and
embrace the struggles along the way so you
can celebrate who you become on the
journey.
