• Who is responsible for Health, Safety and Security
in the salon?
Maintain health and safety in the
salon
• Codes of Practice These codes have been
recommended by professional industry bodies as
being good working practice.
• Workplace Policies These are policies written by
the employer and must be followed by the
employee (you) as a requirement of your contract
of employment.

• Salon Hazards
• HAZARD is something that has the potential to
cause harm.
• A RISK is the likelihood of harm actually occurring
due to the hazard.

• For example: A hairdryer lead left trailing from the
workstation is a HAZARD. There is a RISK that
someone could trip over this lead and be harmed.
To reduce the RISK of this happening we must
ensure all leads are safely wound up when not in
use.
