 A Summer Night

Long sunny days are followed by short warm nights. Most

often it’s clear weather, and the endless sky stretches over
your head. At night, the world of people freezes, but mine
begins. I am a going out person, and there’s no more perfect
time for me to spend a night out with someone rather than
that. Last week, I spent a wonderful night with a friend of
mine. We did not sit in a restaurant or a café, however, we
sat on a bench outdoors, and in front of us was a pond.
The lilac sunset quietly died away, blurring along the
distant horizon and dissolving into a light haze in,
descending to its native expanses. The black and purple sky
began to turn on lonely, and its shimmering stars gathered in
the constellations of constellation. It was a quiet evening, so
quiet that rare distant sounds – people’s voices, dog barking,
rustling of leaves of trees – are audible, as if they are very
clear.
Furthermore, in the very centre of the pond, there was a
small boat swayed quietly, lowered into the dark water, with
oars. A lone fisherman, lightening himself with a flashlight,
was preparing to throw a bamboo fishing rod, glowing in the
dark with neon flicker. It looked so quiet lovely. I put my head
on my friend’s shoulder, and if the world had trembled down,
I would never have made a move.
The indefatigable frogs croaked in, overgrown with
malachite mold, in the pond, and scattered in circles around
the swaying lunar reflection. Their melody was caught by the
chirping of cicadas and tireless cricket, and all this
cacophony was hovering over the ground. Trees around us
were magnificently cleaned in bright green clothes. Under
them everywhere the grass grew, dotted with colourful lights
of summer flowers, and butterflies fluttered over them.
Darkness reigned around, and in the sky myriads of stars
were lit. Closer to midnight, the sky in one place brightened,
the pale glow gradually flared up. A few minutes later, there
was a full moon, on which even strange patterns depicting
the relief of its surface could be seen from the ground. With
the rising of the moon, it became so light that it was easy to
distinguish the silhouettes of houses, trees, and even
individual leaves on them, and their shadow fell to the
ground. The whole night world appeared before us, as if
covered with silvery paint.
The night is fascinating and inspiring. Each of us at least
once admired her mysterious beauty, and praised by artists
of all time as a magical time of reflection, rest, creative
inspiration and love.

 A Character from a Book

Doctor Faustus is presented as a tragic hero who

occupies a lofty position. He is a famous scientist and a
successful doctor. He is not a traditional tragic hero because
he is not of a noble blood. He is neither a prince nor a king.
He emerges from a common family, but he gains a wide
reputation because of his broad knowledge and his effective
curse. However, he is afflicted with a flaw which makes him
do fatal faults and leads him to his downfall.
Doctor Faustus is full of pride and ambitions as he is not
satisfied with the knowledge he has. He seeks unlimited
power and knowledge, yearns to transcend the boundaries
of acceptable human knowledge, and wants to uncover the
mystery of heavenly matters and issues. Thus, he exceeds
the accepted limits of human knowledge. His pride makes
him plan to carry out a bargain with the devil in order to fulfil
his ambitious desires. He gets driven by his thirst for
knowledge and power.
Afterwards, he aspires to rise above the limits of human
knowledge, and sees that the study of ordinary science is
inferior to his abilities and genius. He decides that a pact
with the devil is the only way to fulfil his ambitions. He
indulges in self-deceit because he pays no heed to all exists.
He denies reckoning and resurrection because he is eager to
carry out this plan and bargain with the devil. He is curious to
discover the results of using black magic, and his pride
makes his blind to the terrible effects of his bargain.
After he fulfils the bond or the deal, he sinks in an inner
conflict between his desire for repentance and his fear of the
devil. His conscience torments him because he fears eternal
damnation and God’s wrath. He yearns to redeem his sins
and turn to God, but his fear of the devil’s revenge and
desire for pleasure hinder his repentance and salvation.
Absolute power corrupts Faustus.
Once he can do everything, he misuses his power. He
gets involved in trivial activities and in earthily pleasures.
When the twenty four years approach their end, he falls in
despair. He has strong inclination to repent, but he is unable
to take this step because he thinks that it’s too late, however,
he confesses his sins and regrets submitting to the
temptation of the devil and realizes his great fault when the
twenty four years are spent. He regrets what he has done
because of his fear of the devil’s revenge and anger.

 A Character from a Movie

Considering so many great movies that been such a hit in

the box office. I wanted to bring a film that from my point of
view is one of the greatest movies worldwide. In accordance
with the success, popularity, its cinematic greatness and the
effect on the common people, I chose Brave heart (William
Wallace) a Mel Gibson film which is an American epic
historical fiction war film.
William Wallace a late-13th-century Scottish warrior who
became one of the strongest leaders during the war of the
Scottish independence. Wallace was born into the
aristocracy of Scotland; his father died when he was
eighteen, and his mother when he was twenty-four. He
started as a little boy with brave heart but a childish mind.
His father taught him how to use his mind before his
strength. Young William Wallace witnesses Longshanks'
infidelity, survives the deaths of his father and brother, and is
taken on a pilgrimage throughout Europe by his uncle
Argyle, where he is educated. Wallace had grown up and
became strong apparently and spiritually.
Wallace was a strong looking man, with eyes coloured by
the blue of the ocean. He had a long yellow hair, hard chin, a
straight nose which reminds you of Greek sculptures, and a
marvellous smile. He also was characterized by an
overwhelming body, and a wise mind. As well as his
strength, he used his mind in each and every battle to
conquer his enemies. Wallace leads his battalion to victory at
the Battle of Stirling and then destroys the city of York, killing
Longshanks' nephew and sending his bloody separated
head to the king. With his intelligence, he proved to everyone
that freedom is possible.
Wallace kept fighting with the English for seven years,
however, a betrayal happened and sends William to his
death. Wallace is brought before an English bailiff, accused
for high treason, and condemned to public torture. Even
whilst being hanged, drawn and quartered, Wallace refuses
to submit to the king. He was a very resolute person. The
watching crowd started crying for mercy. The magistrate
offers him one final chance, asking him only to utter the
word, "Mercy", this only word will have his salvation, which is
a quick death. William instead shouts, "Freedom!", and his
cry rings through the square. Afterwards, the judge orders
Wallace's death.
For the last breath in his lungs, he screamed
''FREEDOM.” This shows the endurance, persistence,
volition, and even the sacrifice of Wallace. Freedom is a
choice not to just have it in your basic life. I am talking about
the freedom of our mind. William Wallace was a great
example for us to learn how to stick with our own freedom,
choices and even our decisions. They roasted, tortured him
and eventually, executed him, but Wallace had a strong will
to stick to his own essentials.

 Faculty

My faculty is located in Suez University. It is near to my

house. It is a very wide university. It has many faculties like
faculty of Engineering, Computer Science, Arts and
Humanities, and Medicine. Each faculty has its own building.
I am in the faculty of Arts and Humanities. It is one of the
most important faculties in my university.
There are many departments in my faculty; department of
English, French, Philosophy, History, and Geography. All
students are free to choose the department they want, so I
decided to choose the department of English. The building of
the faculty consists of three floors. Once you get in the
building, you can see a fountain that has a star shape. The
students take a rest on the edge of the fountain since it has
been out of order, despite that it is illegal. In front of you,
there is a bathroom and a water cooler. On your left hand,
there is an office for students’ problems, and on your right,
you can find the library.
In the second floor, there are several lecture rooms. Our
lecture room is on your right hand at the end of the corridor.
It is very wide, and has many armchairs which are made of
wood. Also, we have a projector to display our lessons
easily. There is ventilation which set hanging from the
ceiling. Moreover, the third floor consists of professors’
offices. If we need anything, we can go there and ask them
for help.
I studied several subjects such as Phonetics, Grammar,
Criticism, Translation, Civilization, Essay, Poetry, and
Drama. I learned something different in each subject. I
learned how to translate, how to speak English fluently, how
to write a descriptive essay, and how to write a fully
comment on any poem. Furthermore, I earned information
about what had happened in various centuries.
The professors are also very excellent. They illustrate
everything we need, and give us all the information they
have for learning us properly. They make us love the
material first to know how to study it well. They help us to
love English, speak it very well, and understand what we are
doing. I do love my faculty and I never regret choosing my
department. I chose it because I had wanted to develop my
language which will open several areas in my job in the
future. Maybe one day, I will become a translator, or a
banker, or work in a civilized company.
o My Dream House
Since I was a child, I had been dreaming to live in a
house that would be a place of peace, joy, and inspiration. I
don’t like the idea of living in a noisy city in an apartment in
the block of flats.
My dream house should be situated outside the city, in a
deserted place, somewhere in a wood near a lake
surrounded by the wild beautiful nature, or it would be an
amazing idea to live somewhere on an island like Hawaii
with beautiful sandy beaches and a lot of sun. I adore nature
and it would be so exciting to wake up early in the morning
and listen to the birds singing. Or at least, my dream house
should be located near a small river in the countryside where
I could live in peace and harmony with serene nature.
My dream house should be of a simple design; I would
like it to be a bungalow style house designed in basic colours
that are appealing to the eyes. I would like to have a huge
lawn in front of my house and only one parking for my one
car (I don't like visitors). There should be a small garden
planted with fruit trees, bushes and flowers. There should be
a front porch where we could sit and relax and enjoy the
beauty of nature. I would like to have a large backyard with a
big swimming pool and a basketball court because I am fond
of sports. Prefer to spend a lot of time out of doors so an
attractive outer design of my house and gardens is very
important for me.
I would like to have a spacious hall and a large living
room with comfortable sofas and armchairs and a large soft
carpet on the floor. My kitchen should be small and neat
because I am not really fond of cooking, so I prefer to have
meals in small restaurants, and I cook rarely. But my kitchen
should be equipped with the latest cooking appliances and
utensils. I would like to have a really huge refrigerator that
could be filled with cool drinks and a freezer. My kitchen
should be designed in a Scandinavian style with simple white
walls and a floor. I would like to have a large wooden dining
table.
Also, I would like to have three bedrooms with attached
bathrooms with a shower and a Jacuzzi. The bedrooms
should be cozy with large beds and soft carpets on the
floors. I would like to have a large TV set in my bedroom and
a built-in closet. I am fond of reading, actually, I am a
bookworm, so the library would be one of the most important
rooms in my dream house. I would like to have shelves with
books of my favorite writers that would line the walls from the
floor to the ceiling. In the library, I prefer to have the latest
desktop computer to surf the Internet. I would like to have a
warm and comfortable home, that's a dream.

o An unusual room
My room is a place where I feel relax and the most
comfortable. In my room, I show my personality and forget all
my daily problems and worries. This is the place where I can
really be myself and do what I want. My room is the only
place that I can go to clear my mind without caring about
everything else. In my room, I spend my best childhood
years with a wonderful atmosphere. My room is so special,
so I will describe the furniture, the illumination and how I feel
towards it.
There are many pieces of furniture in my room. Although

many pictures that I have taken, about my friends or other
interesting things that I have found. I sit in my room, and
spend special time sometimes watching TV or reading my
favorite book. I can turn the radio and put on some of my
favorite music, this makes me relaxed. My room is the only
place where I will try to do new things and gives me the
confidence that I don't have in other places. While I was in
my room, I got the chance to relax and think in what I want to
do in my life, the kind of future I want to achieve.
