A healthy LIFESTYLE is one of the most essential to
keep and improve everyone’s health condition.
Having a healthy living has longtime effect to each
individual. Feeling good about yourself and taking
care of your health are important to your self esteem
and self-image.

“We are what we eat” if you don’t know how to
manage our healthy lifestyle will give us problems in
the future. Nutrition has a big role if you want to live
longer, you must eat nutritious food and obtain the
energy, and building materials for the growth and
repair of the body system.

Wellness is also something to strive for, wellness
management is all about learning how to take care
of one’s health, and the capacity of the body to work
without any feeling of fatigue and has more power
to do some activity and the recovery is quicker than
normal person.

Unhealthy lifestyle brings lots of diseases and
shorten life span, consuming too much junk food
and fast food can lead to lifestyle diseases.

IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
● Risk factors are variables in lifestyle that may lead to a disease.
● Aside from genetics or hereditary, age and physical make-up are
some factors that cannot be changed.
● Lifestyle is very important. In everything we do, whether good or
bad it has great effect on our health.
● It involves lot of aspects like the physical activities we are
engage, the foods we eat, our daily habits and many more.
IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
● These different aspects of lifestyle affect our overall health.
Therefore it is a must to give attention in our lifestyle.
● Taking part in recreational activities, especially outdoors, can
greatly improve physical health.
● People who take part in park activities such as walking, running,
or biking maintained lower body fat percentages, and have
lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

● The best way to manage your lifestyle and weight is through
healthy eating and being active.
● This means eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and choosing
lean meats, non-fat and low-fat dairy products, and whole grains.
● It also means limiting sweet liquids, such as soda, fruit drinks, and
sport drinks.
● Eating less fat, sugar, and highly processed foods.
● Try to make fitness a habit. Limiting the time you spend at the
computer or watching TV helps you stay active.
BODY MASS INDEX (BMI)
● BMI is a rough measure of body composition that is useful
for classifying the health risks of body weight; also based
on the concept that a person’s weight should be
proportional to height.
● It is also the baseline that being used to determine the
body weight classification.
Procedure:
1. Get your weight using the bathroom scale (make sure that your
pocket is empty and not wearing any slippers or shoes).
2. Put the tape measure in your wall and measure your height in
meters (example if your height is 160 inches just put a decimal
point in the tens place to make it in meters, it will be 1.6
meters)
3. Compute for the BMI

❖ Healthy eating and active physical activity will be beneficial in maintaining a
healthy weight.
❖ If BMI and other assessment test indicate that fat loss would be beneficial for
your health, your first step is to establish a goal. Make sure that your goal is
realistic and will ensure good health.
❖ Your knowledge of lifestyle and weight management would be beneficial to
you as you get older.
❖ In general, lifestyle should be your focus, knowing your weight and how to
manage it, coupled with participation in active recreational activities would
make you a healthier individual.
❖ However, take note that making significant cut in food intake in order to lose
weight and body fat could be a difficult strategy to maintain, focusing on
increased physical activity is a better approach for many people.
