Memoir Outline

Act One:
Coming from a school in Richardson Texas to the great Southlake Carroll I was just an unknown
sophomore awaiting my chance to show the state who I was.
I was one of the few to have a chance to represent and swim for the Southlake Carroll Swim and
Dive team at the 6A State Championships.
Walking into practice the day before the state meet everything was about to change…
Rily Francis a senior and an Olympic swimmer ad ended up in the hospital with a blood clot

Act Two:
My coach walked over to me and told me that I would replace Riley in the Backstroke
How could I?
I felt the rush of pressure
On a team full of Olympic swimmers, I was overshadowed and unrecognized, but I realized this
was my chance to step up and be a leader
The next day we headed to state and all I could think about was how I was now the key piece to
winning the state championships
Then came warmups; it was all a blur but I made sure that I was ready to go and warmed up
I made sure to do two extra dives just to make sure I knew that I would not slip
Changing into my tech suit I was shaking but I knew I had to stay calm and collected for the
team so that they knew they could put their faith in me

Act Three:
Then it was time
“Chloe let's head over to the blocks”
I walked over to talk to my coaches one last time… “You can do it little fishy I believe in you.
Make us proud.” - Coach Murphy
I found my teammates once again and walked over to the blocks with my head held high
There I stood in lane 1 right next to my rival from my old team
*First whistle* I jumped in and set up my feet perfectly just like in warmup
*second whistle* the pressure hit…here we go
“Take your mark”...*BEEP*
I dove in and I dolphin kicked as hard as I could
I knew underwaters were my specialty so I made sure to use them to my advantage
The first wall came everyone neck and neck
Then the second wall and then the third
This was the last turn and I made sure that I kicked harder than I ever had in my life
Breaking the surface I looked up to see my whole team screaming and cheering over me almost
as if they were to fall into the water
Then I saw the flags
This was it the last 5 yards
I kicked like a madman
I threw my hand back as hard as I could
I looked up to see my team jumping up and down and cheering like crazy
Then I looked to my coach he gave me a wink and an approving nod
I turned around to look at my time 56.66 a personal best
Then I saw the 1 sitting right beside my name
I had done it I had won the race
My teammates pulled me out of the water grabbed me and gave me the biggest hug.
I had never been more proud of myself than in that moment because I knew that not only did I
have a personal best but I won that race for my team.

Act Four
After my race was over Southlake was in the lead
We only had one more race left the 400 Free Relay
Our team swam their heat and the rest of us cheered as loud as we possibly could
Southlake touched the wall first and all I could feel was pure joy and excitement
A couple of minutes later it was time for the podium
There we stood in silence holding hands as one team when they called out, “And in First Place
your 2022 6A State Champions Southlake Carroll.”
Leaping for joy we ran up to stand on that podium together
After being handed the trophy I saw Riley sitting there in the corner with our coach
I took the trophy with me and I ran over to her
I explained to her that even though she was unable to compete and contribute today we would
not be there without her
