NARRATIVE REPORT FOR CPD POINT APPLICATION

Training Title: COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING FOR DPWH ENGINEERS

Date: March 2-16, 2020 – March 15-28 2022

No. of Hours: 168 Credit Hours of Technical Training

DPWH engineers braved a series of extensive lectures, laboratory works, field inspection,

group presentations, and on-the-job training on DPWH projects within the vicinity of Region

II to improve further their competencies in our job.

The lectures were divided in different modules which covered the different scopes of the

department such as the Planning, Procurement, Finance, Construction, Quality Assurance, and

Maintenance works. At each end of the modules, presentation of activities and examination

were conducted to evaluate the participant’s learning.

Lecturers, who are experts on their own fields, also shared actual field stories and experiences

that provided the participants with practical tips and efficient methods needed for their

advancement.

The training also covered and dissected all Department Orders which are necessary in a

project supervision and implementation.

The training program was capped with a written examination prepared by the engineers from

the Bureau of Quality and Standards (BQS) to gauge the knowledge and skills acquired by the

participants during the program.

The training program aims to ensure that DPWH field engineers continuously improve and

keep pace with the trends in the infrastructure industry, especially now that the demand for

infrastructure work arises given the aggressive infra thrust of the government for the next

years.

The training ended with a Graduation Ceremony and awarding of Certificates.

Training Title: CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY

Date: October 24-28, 2022

No. of Hours: 40 Credit Hours of Technical Training

DPWH engineers faced a series lectures, laboratory works, field inspection, group

presentations, and on-the-job training on DPWH projects within the vicinity of Region II to

improve further their competencies in our job

DPWH Engineers undergone a series of lectures, field works, laboratory demonstrations, and

group activities towards knowing more about the technology of concrete.

The course involves the concrete construction methods and common defects, concrete

sampling and testing, design mix of concrete at different strengths, quality control measures

at actual field situation.

The resource speakers for the 5 days training were from the Quality Assurance Division of

DPWH Region II. The speakers shared actual stories and relevant experiences for us to use

in our future application in project supervision.

On the last day of the training, a challenging and competitive examination was conducted.

The examination was described as competitive for the reason that a reward for the topnotcher

is guaranteed by the Regional Director.

The training ended with a Graduation Ceremony and awarding of Certificates.

Training Title: MAINTENANCE ENHANCEMENT TRAINING (MET) PROGRAM FOR MAINENANCE


PERSONNEL

Date: December 05-07, 2022

No. of Hours: 24 Credit Hours of Technical Training

The maintenance enhancement training (met) program for maintenance personnel aims to

maintain a safe and passable road for the travelling public and responsible for the rectification

of road defects that may arise from time to time.

It was attended by the Maintenance Point Person’s (MPP’s) and Maintenance Crews.

After the 3-day course, the participants were able to learn all the standards on routine

maintenance (patching, crack/ joint sealing, pavement marking application and concrete re-

blocking) in actual field and to execute road work safety and traffic management during

performance of routine maintenance on site.

The resource speaker of the training was Engineer Miguel Alcantara from the Bureau of

Maintenance BOM.

Three days of the training were allocated for the discussion of the various topics such as

Duties and Responsibilities of Maintenance Crew, D.O. 189 Series of 2022, D.O 41 Series of

2016, D.O. 93 Series of 2014, D.O. 168 Series of 2015, Coded Defects, Road Works and Traffic

Safety, Pothole Patching, Concrete Re-blocking, Sealing of Cracks and Joints, Pavement

Markings, and Malpractices in Maintenance work.

On the last day of the training, the participants were grouped into two and that day was

allocated for Hands-on application of all the topics discussed. After the field works, the

resource speakers gave a short examination to know if the participants really learned on the

training conducted.

The training ended with a Graduation Ceremony and awarding of Certificates.

Training Title: SEMINAR-WORKSHOP FOR PROJECT DOCUMENTATION

Date: May 19-20, 2022

No. of Hours: 16 Credit Hours of Technical Training

The Seminar-Workshop for project documentation aims to equip all technical personnel on the

proper, required, and standard documentation on different cycles of project implementation.

The work Shop was attended by Project Engineers (PE), Assistant Engineers (EA), Resident

Engineers (RE) and Project inspectors (PI).

The training covered the Roles and Responsibilities of Project Engineers and Project

Inspectors, and the different documents needed during project implementation such as during

project suspensions, project extensions, project resumptions, variation orders, site

instructions, and progress documents needed.

During the 3-day training, activities were conducted simulating field conditions and preparing

the right documents and actions in various situations. Random outputs were chosen to

present and correction were cited for improvements. The trainers stressed the importance of

every document in a project and mentioned that these documents serve as proof and veracity

of all actions and activities in a project.

On the last day of the training, an examination was conducted to measure the learning of the

participants.

The training ended with a Graduation Ceremony and awarding of Certificates.
