Amount of Teacher talk What percentage of the time is the lesson teacher led(Ex. Whole class
Instruction)?.What percentage of the lesson does teacher talk occupy?
Teacher’s time management How much time is spent on the teacher introducing new learning? On having students
sit passively on the carpet for example? On guided practice? On Independent practice?
Teaching Strategies What strategies does the teacher use during the lesson (Think -Pair-Share; peer
assessment, cooperative learning, task-based learning, etc.?
Meeting Students’ need How does the teacher use students, data to meet their needs? How is support
differentiated? What type of differentiation are used? How does the teacher personalize
the learning?
Teacher’s knowledge of subject Does the teacher make any language mistakes on oral or written work? How accurate is
the teacher’s understanding of subject expectations?
Lesson Expectations Are lesson expectations in line, below or above curriculum standards? Are there
opportunities for critical thinking? Is the work produced reflective of students’ grade
level?
Lesson Objectives and success criteria Are lesson objectives, success criteria and lesson activities well planned and aligned?
Use of digital tools What digital tools are used? How effective are they?
Students’ Learning
Level of student involvement What is the percentage of passive learners? What role do students play in the lesson?
Level of enjoyment Do students ask questions? Initiate discussions? How are their body language and
facial expressions?
Opportunities of Independent work Are students given substantial amount of time to engage in independent work, whether
individually, in pairs or in groups?
Progress in Lessons How do students’ progress towards lesson objectives?
Student attainment Hoe many students are performing within, below or above curriculum expectations?
Students Work
Documenting and evidencing students Are recordings of students reading, speaking and Quran recitation available? How
work many recordings per student are there? How is feedback shared on those? How many
writing pieces are evidenced?
Progress in students work How does the students work progress throughout the school year?
Students’ attainment How many students perform below, above or in line of curriculum expectations? How
is the judgement moderated?
Alignment of marking/feedback with Is the school policy for marking and feedback being adopted?

Assessment Policy What weights are placed on formative versus summative assessments and on different
skills (where applicable)
Assessment moderation How are internal assessments moderated? How is teacher’s marking moderated?

Quality of resources Are resources of high resolution and quality? Are images age appropriate? Do students
use the resources to support with independent learning?
Use of learning environment Is the learning environment rich with word walls, children’s books etc.? Do students
use these to support their learning?
Display of students work Is the students work displayed in the class and frequently updated?
