ACT I
Scene 1
NARRATOR: In a faraway place, there lived in a palace, a Tsar and a Tsarina who
had a son born mute, Ivan liked to hear stories told by the palafrenero, but this last
time, the palafrenero did not tell him a story. Rather, he spoke to her about a
prediction...

(The shoemaker working the shoes of a horse. He wears corroded boots, hood and
tunic representative of the Middle Ages).
(Ivan approaches the driver and expresses himself with signs).

PALAFRENERO (Whispering): No, Ivan, this time I will not tell you a story; pay
close attention: soon your mother will give birth to a girl, and this sister of yours will
be a dreadful witch who will eat your father, your mother, and all the palace
servants. If you want to get rid of such a disgrace, go and ask your father for his
best horse and go wherever the horse will take you.

Scene 2
Narrator: Ivan was very frightened and hurriedly ran to his father.
(Trembling, he gestures to his father. Ivan speaks to him exalted)

IVAN: Father!
FATHER (Cheerful): Your voice!
IVAN: I need a horse.
(Father rings a bell and turns toward the entrance).
FATHER (in an authoritative manner): Saddle up the best horse we have and give
it to my son.

 Act 2
Scene 1

Narrator: Ivan thought of letting the rein free, and allowing the horse to lead him
aimlessly. He just wanted to escape.

Iván: (to the horse) Run like the wind, target practice, to infinity and beyond.
(the horse neighs and starts to run without Ivan, Ivan catches up and gets on)

Narrator: After many hours of riding, he finally arrives at a cabin in the middle of the
forest where a couple of old ladies live.

Ivan: Oh kind ladies, I come running away from my sister's witch, who wants to eat
me, could you be so kind as to give me shelter in your humble home.
Old lady 1: we would gladly do it, Ivan Tsarevich, but we have little time left to live.
Old Woman 2: When we have broken all the needles that are in this box and we
have used up all the thread on these spools, our death will come.
Ivan: (begins to cry sadly)

Scene 2
Narrator: Ivan continued his way through the forest and after some time he met a
farmer who was engaged in collapsing mountains.
Ivan: oh kind peasant, could you give me a place to stay with you for a while, my
sister is a witch who wants to eat me.
Vertodub: (speaking as an Indian) mijito, I'd like to help you but I'm almost going to
kill myself, when I finish uprooting these oak trees I won't have any more life left.
Iván: (cries bitterly, making drama like don ramón)

Scene 3
Narrator: Ivan continues on his horse until he reaches Vertogez who is engaged in
pulling up Robles.
Ivan: Oh kind gentleman, would it be possible for me to stay with you to live?
Vertogez: I would gladly give you asylum Ivan Tsarevich, but I do not have long to
live, when I finish turning these mountains, the hour of my death will come.
Iván: (cries desperately with drama)

 Act 3
Scene 1

Narrator: After a long journey, Ivan finally arrives at the house of the sun.

Ivan: Excuse me, beautiful maiden, could I stay with you for the rest of my life?
Sister of the sun: Of course, yes, Ivan Tsarevich, I will take care of you like the son
I never had, I will feed you and cuddle you.

Iván: Thank you kind lady

(after several years)

Act 4
Narrator: Ivan was very happy with his new life with the sister of the sun, but he
missed his parents very much. Then Ivan climbed a high mountain and from there
he looked at the palace in the distance. Ivan's eyes filled with tears.
Ivan: oh how I miss my father and mother, I wonder if the witch has eaten them by
now.
(with tearful eyes returns to the palace)

Act 5
Scene 1

Ivan: (enters the palace, and the sister of the sun approaches him and takes his
face, looking him in the eyes)
Sister of the sun: Have you been crying again? Tell me the truth, why is there
sadness in your heart? I don't give you everything? you don't like the life you have?
Iván: yes I am very happy, you have been very good and kind to me but I miss my
family, let me go visit them, I know you don't agree with me going but I have to do
it.
Sister of the sun: with all the pain of my heart I will let you go Ivan Tsarevich, but I
will give you some magic objects that will be useful to you on your journey, a comb,
a brush and two apples that will instantly rejuvenate whoever eats them.
Ivan: (hugs the sun sister tightly) Thank you very much, I'll come back.

Act 6
Scene 1

Narrator: Ivan rode hard to meet Vertogez who only had one mountain left to throw.
Ivan: Vertogez, nice to see you again, but I see you are about to throw the last
mountain.
Vertogez: that's right, this is the end of my life.
Ivan, I don't believe it, look what this brush can do.
(Ivan dropped the brush and towering mountains appeared.)
Vertogez: gee, what a joy to be able to continue to be useful, what a joy to work
again and to continue to live.

Scene 2
Narrator: Tsarevich Ivan rode on and met again Vertodug who had only 3 oak trees
left to throw.
Iván: Hi Vertodug how nice to see you after so long.
Vertodug: Hello Ivan, you will not find me alive, I'm about to die, I have only three
oak trees to throw.
Ivan: That we can fix, with this magic comb you will have much more work and life
ahead of you.
Narrator: Ivan Tsarevich took out the comb and threw it in the middle of the field,
and in the blink of an eye the most spectacular forests were born.
Vertodug: thank you very much, what a joy to continue working with Vales mil Ivan
Zarvich.

Scene 3

Narrator: Ivan continued on his way until he reached the house of the
seamstresses.

Ivan: hello again kind seamstresses but what old ladies are you now?
Old Woman 1: We are two needles away from Ivan Tsarevich's death.
Ivan: I have a gift for you, these apples will make you young again.
(the old women eat the apples and in the blink of an eye they become young girls).
Old ladies: thank you very much Ivan Tsarevich, take this magic handkerchief,
when you need it shake it to form a deep lake.
Ivan: Thank you ladies, good life.

Act 7
Scene 1

Narrator: Ivan rode and arrived at last at his parents' palace where he met his
sister the witch for the first time.
Witch: brother, come in and sit down, play this harp while I make you a nice
milkshake and order you a pizza, I guess you are tired.
Ivan: thank you, I'm sure you don't want to eat me, I just sit and play?
Witch (in voice-over) yes brother just play, now I'm coming with you.

Scene 2
(suddenly a mouse comes out of his house and approaches Tsarevich)
Mouse: save yourself Tsarevich, run away at full speed! Your sister is sharpening
her teeth to eat you.
Iván: Are you serious? What about pizza and milkshake?
Mouse: (pushing Ivan to the exit) I told you to go, run.

Act 8
Narrator: The Tsarevich mounted his horse and ran away at full gallop.
Witch: You are still there, right brother?
Witch: Brother? (noticing that her brother had run away, she shouts loudly)
IVAAAAAAAAAAAN COME BACK... (enraged and with sharp teeth she started to
run after her brother.
Iván: (noticing that his sister is coming behind him) she almost caught up with me.
The handkerchief, where I left the handkerchief. Here it is (he throws it on the
ground and a large lake forms behind it).
Narrator: the witch began to swim all along the shore that the magic scarf had
formed, while Zarevich was far away, until suddenly Vertodub noticed that Zarevich
was running away from his heramana.
Vertodub: run Forest run, I mean run Ivan run. I'll cover you Ivan, these logs will
stop it.
(Verdotub made a mountain out of logs)
Witch: make way, I'll gnaw cad trunk and I'll catch you brother
Ivan: (agitated) thanks Vertodug, I owe you one.

Narrator: Ivan was running relentlessly and his sister was already behind him.
When Vertogez suddenly noticed what was happening
Vertogez: Run Ivan I will throw the mountain higher and that will stop it.
Witch: I will climb so fast that in a few steps I will be behind you Ivan. You cannot
escape.
Iván: (very agitated and almost crawling) I can't take it anymore, he's going to
catch me.
Witch: I told you, little brother, you can't escape me.
Ivan: (looking astonished) the palace of the sun's sister.... Open up, open up, it's
me Ivan Tsarevich. My sister's witch comes after me.
Sister of the sun: (Frightened) Run, run inside....
Witch: Give me my brother, (shouting angrily) Ivan Tsarevich, get out of there...
let's make a deal.
Sister of the sun: do it with me, what's the deal?
Witch: let's go to the scales to weigh ourselves, if Ivan is heavier, let him kill me,
but if I weigh more, I'll eat him.
Ivan: all right, all right, let's go to the scale.

Narrator: Ivan climbed on one side of the scales, and as soon as the witch climbed
one foot, Ivan Tsarevich shot up, so high and so strong that he fell into the very sky
and found himself in another palace of the sister of the sun. Ivan stayed there
forever and the witch could never reach him.

Witch: (lying on the floor throwing a tantrum)

End.
