Raniry are encouraged to develop their teaching and research competencies and skills relevant to
the university’s eventual goal to become an independent, innovative, and leading research
university at the national and international levels. As the Post Graduate School Program, in
particular, plans to start an international degree program in Islamic studies in the near future, it is
high time for the program to start the necessary preparation.
As part of the preparation, a lecturer from UIN Ar-Raniry participated in the Australian
Indonesian Muslim Exchange Program (AIMEP) 2022 involving intensive online courses and in-
person workshops. The program was sponsored by the Australian Government through its
Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia and implemented by Mosaic Connection in collaboration with the
two biggest Indonesian Muslim Society Organizations of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah
during the period of October - November 2022. The program enables Indonesian and Australian
Muslim young leaders, social activitsts, educators to learn how to effectively understand Islam as
a means of change, peacemaking and progressive networking in Indonesia and Australia and
beyond and encourages them to approach Muslims and its societies in a multidisciplinary
approaches. In particular, the AIMEP program is deemed beneficial for UIN Ar-Raniry’s faculty
members as it can help them better understand the principles and objectives of using Islamic
Studies to promote the beauty of Islam and its teachings and principles in interdisciplinary
courses within the context of an international program.
Part of the AIMEP program is the implementation of networking multiplication activities
at the participants’ home institutions for future international collaboration through dialogue, and
scientific mechanism. This workshop activity correlates with the Post Graduate School
Program’s immediate goal: to offer an international degree program in Islamic Studies. Also, this
workshop will serve as the starting point for the university’s action to develop quality
international programs. Finally, the dissemination activity can help the Post Graduate School
Program identify potential faculty members for the planned international program(s) on Islamic
Studies and its methodological traits.
