About AAEW
AAEW is a non-profit educational organization to advance accounting education in the ASEAN
region. We host regular meetings on technical or general accounting-related topics, publish a
newsletter, and organize activities that put accounting educators, students and practitioners on
various platforms to collectively develop accounting education.

Every year, AAEW organized an annual meeting where lecturers and students gathered to discuss
various updated accounting and accounting education issues. In 2023, the annual meeting is
hosted by the School of Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia, in Penang Island, Malaysia.

About Universi0 Sains Malaysia

Universiti Sains Malaysia (abbreviated as USM) is a public research university in Malaysia.

Founded on 1 June 1969 as a statutory body, it is among the oldest institutes of higher
learning in Northern Malaysia. It has three campuses: a main campus on the island of Penang,
a health campus in Kelantan, and an engineering campus in Nibong Tebal.
USM is Malaysia's only Accelerated Programs for Excellence (APEX) government-
funded autonomous university.

About Penang Island

With an area of 295 km2 (114 sq mi), Penang Island is the fourth-largest island in Malaysia,
aXer Banggi Island, Bruit Island and Langkawi Island. It is also the most populated island in the
country, with an es[mated popula[on of 678,000. The island is connected to the mainland by
two Penang Bridges. The first bridge begins at Gelugor on the island and ends in Perai on the

state is known as Seberang Perai (Province Wellesley), and together with Penang Island and
other smaller islands, form the state of Penang.

Mini Game 1: ASEAN Quiz

General Rules: 1. The ques[ons will be words where it is a certain something of a

country and the students have to guess which ASEAN country it is
from.

2. Each ques[on will have a theme which are the na[onal flag, food,

3. Each theme will have about 5 ques[ons, where the students are
given 30 seconds to answer each ques[on.

4. For this game, we will show an example for the par[cipants

before star[ng the actual game.

Scoring System: For each ques[on answered correctly, the group will get 1 mark.
There will be a total of 30 marks accumulated (6 theme x 5 ques[ons),
if they answered everything correctly.

Mini Game 2: Word Scramble

7
General Rules: 1. The ques[ons will be words where the spellings are rearranged
and students have to guess what the original word is.

2. Each ques[on will be based on the 17 Sustainable Development

Goals.

3. Par[cipants are given 40 seconds to answer each ques[on.

4. AXer each ques[on’s answer is revealed, the facilitators will

explain briefly what the goals' main objec[ves are. To make the
session more interac[ve, the facilitators will also ask the students
to describe their understanding of the goals before explaining.

Without having any discussion, in the count of three, all the group
members need to make a pose at the same [me in front of the
camera which they think is related to the word given.

3. The number of group members who make the same pose will be
counted. The group with higher number of members making the
same pose will get 1 mark for each round.

4. For example, if the word “Heart” is given, if the group consists of

10 members, in which 4 of them make the finger heart pose, 3 of
them make the big heart pose and the remaining three make the
small heart pose. Under this circumstance, we will count it as 4
people for making the same pose in this round.
