This paper consists of TWO sections.

Read CAREFULLY the instructions for each section.

Student must ensure that they have stable internet connectivity during downloading the
questions paper and uploading the answer.
Students must ensure that they include their full name and student identification number at
the top of the first page of the answer document.

Student should regularly save the working answer document to avoid accidental loss of work.
Students must submit the answers via the assignment activity allocated to the take home exam,
before the published submission deadline for the exam.
Each student is allowed only one answer submission; therefore, all answers must be submitted
at once.

a) Let P, Q and R be the propositions:

P: You run 10 laps daily.


Q: You are healthy.
R: You take multi-vitamins.

i) Write the following proposition with their logical connectives for

“You run 10 laps daily and you take multi-vitamins, and you are
healthy”.

ii) Transform (Q  P)  R into English statement.

b) Prove that p  (p  p)  q is logically equivalent to

a) In the following graph as illustrated in Figure 1, the vertices represent


cities and the numbers on the edges represent the costs of building the
indicated roads.

ii) Show the suitable paths which is the least-expensive cost starting

iii) From b, calculate the least-expensive road system to e.

cities.

Question 1

a) A bookshelf has space for 7 books. If 12 books are available, how many
different arrangements can be made on the bookshelf?

b) A certain tournament does not require the coach to state the ranking of the
singles players. Instead, the coach only needs to submit 4 names for the
single players. In how many ways this can be done out of 17 players?

c) A town council consists of 8 members including the mayor.

i) How many different committees of 4 can be chosen from this


council?

ii) How many of these committees include the mayor? (Hint: C(7,3))

iii) How many of these committees do not include the mayor?
