ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to enhance learners’ understanding and ability to work with
problems related to numbers, basic logarithms, indices, set operations and application of sets, and
change of bases.

Tujuan tugasan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keupayaan pelajar untuk bekerja
dengan masalah yang berkaitan dengan nombor, logaritma asas, indeks, operasi dengan set dan
penggunaan set, dan pertukaran dasar.

REQUIREMENT
Answer all the questions and show your detailed workings clearly and systematically.

PART I

QUESTION 1

a) Explain the following different types of numbers. Provide two(2) examples of each:

i. Rational numbers
ii. Irrational numbers
iii. Integers

b) State whether each of the following is a set of integers or a set of rational numbers
and
provide your reasoning:
i. The number of people who went to vote in seven areas.
ii. The lengths of ribbons used in flower arrangements.
iii. The widths and lengths of boxes used for packing.

c) Given the following numbers: a = 0.00225 b = 0.001225 c = 150000 d= 1050000


i. Write each number in standard form.
ii. Calculate (ad)/(bc) and write the answer in standard form.

d) Show the following intervals on the number line: i. [-3, 2) ii. (-7, 5]

a) Terangkan pelbagai jenis nombor berikut. Berikan dua(2) contoh setiap satu:

a) Given  = {a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r},


P = {b, e, c, j, l, m}, R = {c, i, l, m, n, p} and S= {c, e, k, n, p, r}.

Determine the following (all work must be shown):

b) Given  = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14}, set P = {1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10} and set
Q = {2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12). Draw Venn Diagrams for each of the following and list
the elements of the sets:

i. (P  Q)
ii. [(P  Q)  (P Q)]  (P  Q)

QUESTION 4

A group of 155 people were randomly selected and asked to to state their preferences for
berries: S-Strawberry, C - Cherry, B– Blueberry.
The data collected is as follows:
45 like Blueberry
55 like Strawberry
42 like Cherry
25 like Strawberry and Cherry
32 like Blueberry and Strawberry
26 like Blueberry and Cherry
20 like all three types

a) Draw a complete Venn diagram for the data given.

b) Answer the following questions. Show all necessary work.


i. How many persons prefer cherries or blueberries but not strawberries?
ii. How many persons like at most two of the choices?
iii. How many persons like only one type of berries?
iv. How many persons do not like any of three types of berries?

Sekumpulan 155 orang dipilih secara rawak dan diminta menyatakan pilihan mereka

Provide complete answers to the following:


a. A line passes through the two points (-1, 4) and (3, 8).
i. Find the slope and y-intercept for the line.
ii. Find the equation of the line and another line that is perpendicular to the line.
iii. Graph the two lines on the same axes. (Computer generated graphs are not
acceptable)
b. If one line has a slope of -3 and another has a slope of 2, which line is steeper? Why?
