Preparatory Activities

Good morning, children!

Good morning, Teacher!
Remain standing for our opening prayer.
(Prayer)
Before you take your seat, look around
and pick up the trash around you.
(Students will follow teacher’s
instruction.)
Now, let us see who are here today.
When I call your name, say “present,”
understood?
Yes, Teacher!
(The teacher will start checking
students’ attendance.

A. Engagement
1. Drill
Directions: Identify the animals in the
picture and give their names.

monkey

hen

elephant

cat

frog

butterfly
2. Review
Class, do you still remember our
discussion in Science yesterday?
Yes, Teacher.
If you do, what is reproduction?
Reproduction is a process by which
organism/s produce their offspring.
What are the two types of
reproduction?
Sexual and asexual reproduction.
Very good! What is the difference
between the two?
Sexual reproduction involves two parents
while asexual reproduction involve one
parent.

Sexual reproduction involve gamete cells

while asexual reproduction has no gamete
cells.
How about fertilization? How will you
define it?
Fertilization is the fusion of gametes to give
rise to a new individual organism or
offspring.
Okay Class! Very good. Give yourself a
Science clap!
B. Explore
1. Motivation
Now, let’s play a game! This game is
entitled "Describe me!" As you can
see, we have three pictures of animals
on the board. We will divide the class
into three groups, and then each of you
will receive a corresponding animal to
describe. Together with your group
mates, you will look for the proper
description of the animals assigned to
you inside this box. Then give their
name. Is it clear?
Yes, Teacher!
Okay, let’s start.

(The teacher will divide the class into

three groups.)

Okay class, please go to your

designated group.
(Students will go to their assigned group.)
Group 1, here is your picture to
describe:

Group 2, here is your picture to

describe:

Group 3, here is your picture to

describe:
Okay, you may start looking for the
description of animals assigned to your
group. You have 2 minutes to finish
your task. (Students will start the activity.)

Group 1:

butterfly
 I start as a caterpillar
 I go through metamorphosis
 I feed on nectars but I'm not a bee
 I'm colorful but I'm not a rainbow

Group 2:

frog
 I lay eggs in water
 I like to hop around
 I'm green but I'm not a leaf
 I have a long tongue but I'm not a
giraffe

Group 3:

cat
 I have four legs
 I eat fish if you feed me
 I have just one, but with eight to spare
 I ovulate every 1-3 weeks with contact
stage

Great job, students!

Give yourselves a science clap!
(Students will give them selves a science
clap)
2. Presentation
Base on our previous activity what do
you think will be our topic for today?
It’s about animals, Teacher
Great Job!
To be specific our topic for today is
oviparous and viviparous animals.
Repeat students, “oviparous and
viviparous” viviparous and oviparous

Oviparous animals include hen, snake,

and bird. What is common among
these animals?
They all lay eggs.
Viviparous animals include horse,
elephant, and cat. What is common
among these animals?
They all give birth, Teacher!
That was a good observation!
3. Pre-Activity
Class, for you to know the major
differences of these two modes of
reproduction in animals, I will give you
an activity.

I will divide you into three groups then

each group will be given set of animal
pictures. For our general instruction:

1. Go to your respective group.

2. Assign one leader per group.
3. Communicate and work with your
group mates.
4. Tone down your voice when doing
your task.
5. Stay in your group until the end of
the activity. (Students will receive the pictures from the
6. Respect others. Teacher.)

4. Activity Proper
Together with your group mates,
classify the animals into viviparous and
oviparous group. Put the oviparous
animals in the nest section and put the
viviparous animals into grass section.
After putting it on designated sections,
choose two representatives to explain
your work. Is it clear students?

Yes Teacher!
(Students will proceed to their task)

C. Explain
1. Group Reporting
Okay class, you may now present your
work. Let’s start.

Guide Questions:
1. What are the animals that belong to
the oviparous group? Ant, turtle, butterfly, penguin, and lizard
belong to the oviparous animals.
2. What are the animals that belong to
the viviparous group? Dog, rat, pig, seahorse, and dolphin are
viviparous animals.
3. How did you classify the group of
animals?
We classify them according to how they
reproduce. Oviparous animals lay eggs
while viviparous animals give birth.
2. Discussion
Okay class, that was a great
presentation! Give yourselves a
Science clap!
(Teacher will correct misconceptions
presented by the students during their
group report. After that, she will
continue discussing the topic.)

In addition to what you have said about

our lesson. Oviparous are animals that
lay eggs. If they are laying eggs, where
do you think the development of their
offspring occur?
It can either be inside or outside of their
body.
Great! It may happen inside or outside
of their body. This process is called
internal and external fertilization.

For you to understand the differences

between internal and external
fertilization in oviparous animals,
please watch this video.

(Teacher will present the video to the

class)

(Internal Fertilization)

(External Fertilization)

Based on the video you watched, how

will you contrast the two types of
fertilization?
Internal fertilization happens inside the
body while the external fertilization
Very Good! happens outside the parents body.
Internal fertilization is the union of an
egg and sperm cell during sexual
reproduction inside the female body.
What do you think is external
fertilization?

It is the union of an egg and sperm cell

during sexual reproduction outside the
Now that we’re done discussing female body.
oviparous animals. Let’s move on to
the other type of animals based on
their type of reproduction.

Viviparous animals has the ability to

give birth to young ones. If they give
birth, where do you think their offspring
grow?
Inside of the parents’ body, Teacher!
Very good! Inside of their body
particularly in the womb. The
development of embryo happens inside
the body of parent animal.

What type of fertilization occurs when it

happens inside the body?

Very good! Viviparous animals undergo Internal fertilization, Teacher!

internal fertilization.

D. Elaborate
1. Generalization
Again, what are the two types of
animals based on their type of
reproduction?
Viviparous and oviparous animals.
What is viviparous animals?
They are animals that give birth.
What is the type of fertilization they
undergo?
Internal fertilization, Teacher.
Give examples of viviparous animals.
Cow, carabao, lion, tiger, zebra.
How about the oviparous animals?
How can you describe them?
These are animals that lay eggs.
What is the type of fertilization they
undergo?
It can either be internal and external
fertilization.
Give examples of oviparous animals.
Snakes, tilapia, owl, ostrich, parrot.
Do you have questions?
None, Teacher.
2. Application
Okay, we will divide the class into two.
Imagine that you are tasked with
building a farm. The first group will
build a viviparous farm, and the second
group will build an oviparous one. With
the farm assigned to your group, each
member of the group will list down
animals in accordance with your farm
name. Each correct answer will receive
a point, given that it was not already
mentioned by the other members of the
team. Is it clear?
Yes, Teacher.
(The teacher will divide the class into
two.)
You may now go to your group. You
will be graded based on the provided
rubrics.

You have two minutes to think and list
down your answers.
(Students will go to their corresponding
group and proceed with the task.)
(The teacher will check students’
answers.)

You may now go back to you seats.

(Students will go back to their seats.)

E. Evaluate
Okay class, now if you don’t have any
question. You have 5 minutes to
answer your worksheet. You may now
start.

Directions: Cross out (X) the animal

which does not belong to the group
based on the way they reproduce like
born alive or hatched from egg.

(The teacher will check the class

answers and provide clarification for
students regarding their wrong
answers.)

IV. Assignment
For your assignment, get your notebook and copy this question.

Given the chance to have a pet at home, how are you going to take good care of it?
Write your answer in three to five sentences.

You will be graded based on the rubrics below.
