Madam/Sir, | am directed to say that Hockey constitutes an integral part of our country and it has inspired generation of youth since long. In the absence of major infrastructure, Indian Hockey Team has owned gold medals continuously in 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics prior to independence. Even after independence, Hockey Team has excelled in Olympics and it has inspired young generations prior to cricket era. In Odisha, the Government under the leadership of the present Chief Minister has taken a major decision to unlock the energy of the youth by sponsoring Men's and Women's Hockey World Cup in 2020 and 2023. In addition to this, Hon’ble Chief Minister also took the visionary decision to sponsor both Men's & Women's Hockey National Team from 2018 to 2023. Keeping in view, the glorious history of Hockey, Government have decided that the role and importance of Hockey should be highlighted and imbibed by the present generation. Therefore. it has been decided to take the following steps to emphasis the history and significance of Hockey in student's congregation in the college. 1. On every Monday, the students of the college may be congregated in open space where the golden and glorious history of Hockey is highlighted by reading out the message in English & Odia In the congregation, students may be distributed chocolates or sweets and it may be met from the available contingency. . Flexi banner may be installed in key location of the Institute to highlight the legacy of hockey. . Photographs of such congregation and flex) banner may be taken and submitted to the Department of Higher Education and the same may also be released in social media for wider circulation. During the Freedom struggle, Indian team used to unite the whole country with their world class performance by winning Olympic Gold medals repeatedly by defeating the big colonial rulers of that time like the British, Germans etc, In 1928, 1932,1936 India won the Gold medals continuously in every Olympics. After independence, for the first time Indian flag was hoisted and anthem sung outside India when we won the Olympic hockey Gold medal defeating Britain at the London Olympics in 1948, ‘Again we continued to win the Olympic Gold medals in 1952, 1956, 1964 and 1980. India is the most successful nation in Olympic hockey winning 8 Gold medals. Before cricket era started in 1980s, Hockey used to be India’s main sport and many believe it to be the national sport due to the deep emotional connect with the game. Hockey brought glory to India internationally for decades after the Country's independence. However, after the playing conditions were changed and synthetic turf was made compulsory, India started losing in Hockey. We could not afford the costly Astro turfs while the European and rich countries were able to quickly put Astro turfs and started dominating hockey. ‘Asa result, Indian hockey suffered a lot. In 2008 Beijing Olympics, for the first time India was not even qualified for the Olympics. That's how bad the situation was. The team continued to struggle for many more years. That’s when our chief minister Naveen Patnaik had started supporting Hockey. Sh Patnaik himself had 2 love for hockey as he played as goal Keeper in school and also since his father Sh Biju Patnaik told him about the importance of Hockey during the freedom struggle. So our Chief Minister decided that we should do something to revive the glory of Indian hockey. In 2018, our beloved Odisha Chief Minister, took a monumental step that forever changed the landscape of Indian hackey. He decided to sponsor the Indian national hockey teams. Yes, you heard it right —our state became the first state to sponsor both the men's and women’s national teams. And will continue to do so till 2033. This gesture has propelled Indian hockey teams to achieve a remarkable ranking in the world and are currently No 3 ranked. This improvement was driven by successful campaigns in major tournaments. Itis this sponsorship and support that the National teams are amongst the leading teams globally. The ‘Men's team even bagged a historic bronze after 41 years at the Tokyo Olympics. The women’s tearm was in Semifinals at the Olympics. This initiative wasn't just about financial support; it was about igniting the flame of hockey in the hearts of millions of Indians. COdisha hosted the prestigious Men's Hockey World Cup in 2018 & 2023 at the world-class Kalinga, Stadium and world’s largest hockey stadium, the Birsa munda Hockey Stadium and it was a celebration, 1of our Hockey and our state's commitment to the sport. We showed the world that when Odisha takes upa cause, we excel beyond expectations. But it's not just about the big events; it's about nurturing talent at the grassroots level. Our Chief Minister has championed the development of local talent, giving young boys and girls the opportunity to dream big and represent our nation in hockey. The recent Asian Games had Amit Rohidas and Deep Grace Ekka the stars from Hockey hinterland of, Odisha who have brought laurels for the nation with their prestigious Gold and Bronze respectively. And several are already in the National squads. Chief Minister vision Sports for youth, youth for future has empowered individual players and national teams. Today, when we watch our national hockey teams play, we know that Odisha plays a significant role in their journey. We are not just spectators; we are active participants in their success. We are a state ‘that believes in the power of sports to unite, inspire, and transform lives. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made Odisha as a Global hub for Hockey. Worldwide, Hockey has become synonymous with Odisha. We have the best infrastructure in terms of world class stadiums and also hockey training centres at the grassroots level. We conduct the world cups and major tournaments with great festivity which is unmatched. Hockey is celebrated in a way that involves all parts of the state and society. In the recent Asian Games, India won the Gold medal in men’s category and they completely dominated against all teams. Chief Minister personally spoke to the team immediately after the match and congratulated them and announced reward of Rs 5 lakhs each, Indian hockey is on the rise and to a large extent it is the support and blessings of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik which has made it possible. Hockey has a home and that’s Odisha.
