This document discusses how removing a cultural object like the Bulul from its original context can change people's perceptions of it. For example, placing a Bulul on a pedestal in a gallery with modern materials would make it seem like a commodity for sale rather than a sacred artifact. Exhibiting traditional forms in contemporary spaces combined with manufactured materials can decrease their perceived value and make them appear more common.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE REMOVE THE DISPLAYED OBJECT FROM ITS ORIGINAL CONTEXT? FOR INSTANCE, IMAGINE THE BULUL, IF WE ARE TO PLACE IT ATOP A PEDESTAL, PROTECTED BY A GLASS CASE, LABELED AND ENHANCED BY A SPOTLIGHT. NOW, WHEN A TRADITIONAL FORM IS COMBINED WITH MACHINE- FABRICATED MATERIALS AND EXHIBITED IN A CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY, HOW DOES OUR PERCEPTION OF BULUL CHANGED? ADTO - ANG - ATOLE - BARGABINO
-Context gives people an overview or suggestion of how
something should be viewed as. For example, if the Bulul is placed atop a pedestal, protected by glass case, labeled and enhanced by a spotlight, then it must be something of incredibly high value. A priceless, carved wooden figure that carries years of culture and tradition. On the other hand, if it is exhibited in an art gallery combined with machine fabricated materials, the value of the Bulul will greatly decrease as compared to where it previously was. It will become something that is easily tagged with prices and is something that money is able to stand toe to toe with. It will give a more common look and will lose its ability to stand out.
