Data Interpretation (Ratio Based)

Directions: Answer the following question based on the information given below.

In India a survey was conducted on males and females regarding the genres of
movies they prefer watching on three different streaming platforms. The table
contains the ratio of average of sum of responses that were Action and Horror to
the average of sum of responses that were Action and comedy (the ratio above is
same for males and females across all 3 streaming platforms). The table also
shows the difference between the responses that were Horror and Comedy for
males and difference between the responses that were Horror and Comedy for
females.

The radar graph shows the total number of female responses on all three
streaming platforms and the total number of male responses on all three
streaming platforms.

Solution

Survey for Prime (Males)

Let the number of males who like Action movies be A, the number of males who
like Horror movies be H and number of people who like Comedy movies be C.

According to the data given,

(A+H)/2: (A+C)/2 = 12:17

Or, 17H+17A = 12A +12C

So, 17H+5A = 12C ---- (Equation 1)

Also, Given

C-H = 120 (as C>H is given)

So, H = C-120 ---- (Equation 2)

Using value from (2) in (1) we have,

17(C-120) + 5A = 12C

17C- 2040 + 5A = 12C

Or, 5C + 5A = 2040

So, A + C = 408---- (Equation 3)

Again, the radar graph shows that

A+H+C = 588---- (Equation 4)

Putting values from (3) in (4)

H = 588-408 = 180

C = 180+120 = 300

A = 408-300 = 108
Similarly, we will get,

Action Action Horror Horror Comedy Comedy Total Total

Total 378 216 558 312 846 464 1782 992

Q1. The number of males who prefer Thriller movie on Jio Cinema is

= (120*1/8) + (210*5/14) + (300*4/15) = 15 + 75 + 80 = 170

Thus, the number of females who prefer Thriller movie on Jio Cinema is

= [[170* 19]/ (53-19)]

= 170*19/34 = 95

Q2. Required ratio = [210+180]: [120+150] = 390:270 = 13:9

Q3. M = 220+250 = 470

M+M2 = 470+22090 = 22560

So, [M+M2]/120 = 22560/120 = 188

Q4. Required % = [112/312]*100 = 35.89% = 36%

Q5. For Hotstar,

New Action Males = 150 + [330/11] = 180

New Comedy Males = 330-30 = 300

New Action Females = 100 + [220*3/20] = 133

New Comedy Females = 220-33 = 187

So difference is = 300+133-180-187 = 66

A. 35 days
B. 40 days
C. 45 days
D. 50 days
E. Cannot be determined
Answers:

1. B
2. C
3. B

Solution:

Q1. In all these three situations, amount of work (total work) is equal.

Thus Efficiency =1/Time Taken

Ratio of Time Taken = Situation 1: Situation 2

= 88:66 = 4:3

Thus Ratio of Efficiency = Situation 1: Situation 2 = 3:4

The difference in efficiency of both these situations is because of difference in

number of workers, i.e. 4u-3u = 1u = (x+8-X) = 8 workers

So in situation 1 there are 3*8= 24 workers and in situation 2 = 4*8 = 32 workers

Total work = 24*88

Number of days required with 64 workers = 24*88/64 = 33 days

[Short Trick: after calculating 1u = 8 workers, we can say 64 workers = 8u

Ratio of efficiency in Situation 2: Situation3 = 4:8 = 1:2,

So, Ratio of time Taken in Situation 2: Situation3 = 2:1

Thus number of days taken by 64 workers to complete the project is 66/2 = 33

days]

Q2. Ratio of Time taken in situation 1: situation 2 = 75:108 = 25:36

Ratio of efficiency = 36:25

We know efficiency depends on the number of workers, So both are propotional.

So, Z2/M2 = 36/25

Z/M = 6/5

Total work = (6/5) M * 75

&, new number of workers = 0.5Z*2M = Z/2*2M = ZM

When total workers Z2, efficiency = (6u) 2 = 36u2

So when total workers ZM, efficiency = (5u*6u) = 30u2

So, ratio of efficiency will be = 36u2: 30u2 = 6:5, thus time = 5:6

Thus, time taken by ZM workers = 75*6/5 = 90 days

Q3. We know total work in all 3 situations is same for project B, then

Y(Y-1) = (Y+6)(Y-6)

Y2 – Y = Y2 -36

Y = 36

Total work = Y*(Y-) = 36*35 = 1260u

0.5Y people = 18 people work for 10 days doing 18*10 = 180u

So work left = 1260-180 = 1080 u done by 18+18 = 36 people in

1080/36 =30 days

So total days = 40 days

A. 72
B. 75
C. 62
D. 77
E. Cannot be determined
Answers:

1. C
2. B
3. D

Solution:

Q1.

Marks obtained in Reasoning is

Andhra Pradesh = 9*4/6 u = 6u

Haryana = 5*6/5u = 6u

Kerala = 6*7/6u = 7u

So ratio of marks obtained in Reasoning = 6:6:7 = 19u

Now, 19u = 76*3=

So, 1u = 12

Thus marks by Topper in Haryana is 12*6 = 72

Total marks obtained by topper in Haryana = 72*30/6 = 360

Q2. Ratio of passing marks in each subject is

=Quants: English: Reasoning: Computer = 5:4:6:5

Passing marks:

English = 100*16/100 = 16

Quants = 16*5/4 = 20 = Computer

Reasoning = 16*6/4 = 24.

Marks in reasoning for topper of Chhattisgarh = 24+24 = 48

So, Marks in computer for topper of Chhattisgarh = 48*5/6 = 40 =Marks in English

for topper of Kerala.

Marks in Quants for Topper of Kerala = 40*3/4 = 30

This is 10marks above cutoff of Quants.

Q3. Using data from Q2 we can say maximum score of all 4 subjects together can
be 100*4 = 400

Topper in Andhra Pradesh scored in 4 subjects together = 400*70/100 = 280

Ratio of marks in Quants: English: Reasoning: Computer = 5:5:4:6

i.e. 20u = 280 & 1u = 14

So average score in Quants and computer = 14/2*(5+6) = 77

Q1. Total Amount received by Manish = 5600 × 1.252 × (1 + 2 × 0.2) + 8400 × 1.22 ×
(1 + 2 × 0.25)
= 5600 × 1.5625 × 1.4 + 8400 × 1.44 × 1.5 = 12250 + 18144 = 30394 Rs.
Total Amount received by Nitish = 8400 × 1.252 × (1 + 2 × 0.2) + 5600 × 1.22 × (1 +
2 × 0.25)
= 8400 × 1.5625 × 1.4 + 5600 × 1.44 × 1.5 = 18375 + 12096 = 30471 Rs.
Difference = 30471 - 30394 = 77

Q2.
CP of Both Item = x Rs.
Total CP = 2x Rs.
Option A, SQRP
SP of Item M = x × 1.5 × 0.75 = 1.125x ≠ 1.05x
SP of Item N = x × 1.4 × 0.75 = 1.05x ≠ 1.125x (Wrong)
Option B, QSRP
SP of Item M = x × 1.4 × 0.75 = 1.05x = 1.05x
SP of Item N = x × 1.5 × 0.75 = 1.125x = 1.125x (Right)
Option C, PRSQ
SP of Item M = x × 1.125 × 0.75 = 0.84375x ≠ 1.5x
SP of Item N = x × 1.05 × 0.75 = 0.7875x ≠ 1.4x (Wrong)
Option D, RQSP
SP of Item M = x × 1.05 × 0.75 = 0.7875x ≠ 1.5x
SP of Item N = x × 1.4 × 0.75 = 1.05x ≠ 1.125x (Wrong)

Q3.
From Statement I & III,
Weight of Amit = 39x kg
Weight of Badal = 46x years
Weight of Shivam = (39x - 1) years
Weight of Divya = (39x - 1) × 41/38
39x + 46x + (39x - 1) + (39x - 1) × 41/38 = 41 × 4
124x - 1 + 1599x/38 - 41/38 = 164

6311x/38 = 164 + 79/38

6311x/38 = 6311/38
x=1
Age of Divya = (39 × 1 - 1) × 41/38 = 41 years
Age of Badal = 46 × 1 = 46 years
Age of Chandan = 41 + 5 = 46 years
Or 41 - 5 = 36 years
Difference between Age of Badal & Chandan,
If Chandan's Age = 46 years, Difference = 46 - 46 = 0 years
If Chandan's Age = 36 years, Difference = 46 - 36 = 10 years (ok)]
Age of Chandan = 36 years
Statement I & III together are sufficient

From Statement II,

Age of Chandan = (4 × 41 - 2 × 42.5) × 36/(41 + 38)
= (164 - 85) × 36/79 = 79 × 36/79 = 36 years (Statement II alone is sufficient)

Either statement I & III together are sufficient or statement II alone is sufficient

Q4.
P + Q = 180/6 = 30 km/hr
P - Q = 40/2 = 20 km/hr
P = (30 + 20)/2 = 50/2 = 25(Incorrect)
Q = (30 - 20)/2 = 10/2 = 5 (Incorrect)
R = 135/(2 × 25 - 5) = 135/(50 - 5) = 135/45 = 3 (Correct)
S = 140/(1.2 × 25 + 5) = 140/(30 + 5) = 140/35 = 4 (Correct)
Thus only C, D fills in the blank.

Q5.
At present, Age of A = x years, Age of B = (2z - x) years , Age of C = (x + z) years
So, x + z = (2z - x) + (3y - 4x)
Or, x + z = 2z + 3y - 5x
Then, z = 6x - 3y

If, Age of A > Age of B, then,

x - (2z - x) = y
2x - 2z = y
2x - 2(6x - 3y) = y
2x - 12x + 6y = y`
5y = 10x
y = 2x
So, z = 6x - 3 × 2x = 6x - 6x = 0 (Not possible)

If, Age of A < Age of B

(2z - x) - x = y
2 × (6x - 3y) - 2x = y
12x - 6y - 2x = y
10x = 7y
x = 0.7y
z = 6 × 0.7y - 3y = 1.2y
Age of D = (x + z) × 2/x = (0.7y + 1.2y) × 2/0.7y = 1.9 × 2/0.7 = 38/7
Now,
I) 8(y/x) - 6 = 8 × y/0.7y - 6 = 80/7 - 6 = 38/7 (Correct)
II) 4(y/x) - 7 = 4 × y/0.7y - 7 = 40/7 - 7 = - 9/7 (Incorrect)
III) 2(z/x) + 2 = 2 × 1.2y/0.7y + 2 = 24/7 + 2 = 38/7 (Correct)

Therefore, Only I and III

Answers:

1. C
2. D
3. B
4. E
5. E

Solutions:

Q- Series 1

42-26 = 16 = 42

67-42 = 25 = 52

Similarly,

Term previous to 26 is = 26-32 = 17

Term previous to 17 is = 17-22 = 13

Term next of 67 is = 67+62 = 103

So x -1 = 13 & x = 14

Also, y+30 = 103, So, y = 73

Thus series I is: 13, 17, 26, 42, 67, 103

Series III

y+1 = 73+1 = 74

y+25 = 98

So pattern is as follows:

98-86 = 12

86-74 = 12
Term next of 98 is = 98+12 = 100 = z

z+ 12 = 100+12 = 112

Thus series III is: 74, 86, 98, 100, 112

Series II

z-18 = 100-18 = 82

90-82 = 8

In such series we check through assumptions and check which fits correct.

Here the assumption that fits is multiplicative table of 8.

So,

82+8 =90

90+16 = 106 = w

106+24 = 130 (as in the question so our assumption was correct but we should
still check for all terms to get a definite answer)

130+32 = 162 = w+56

162 +40 = 202 = w+96

Thus series II: 82, 90, 106, 130, 162, 202

Q1.

Difference = [82+90+106]/3 – [74+86+98]/3 = [278 – 258]/3 = 20/3 = 6.66

Q2.

Required % = 42*100/112 = 37.5%

Q3.

The new series is as follows:

42, 90, 26, 86, 30(=100-70)

Pattern followed is of double difference & alternating addition and subtraction

90-42 = 68

90-26 = 64 [68-64=4]

86-26 = 60 [64-60= 4]

86-30 = 56 [60-56 = 4]

So next term will be = 30+ (56-4) = 82

& next term to 82 will be 82-(52-4) = 34

So sum = 82+34 = 116

Q4.

I. x2-11x-840 = 0

(x-35)(x+24) = 0

X = 35, -24

I. {[y7/10/12]}2 = 96/y1.6

Y14/10/144 = 96/y8/5

Y (7/5+8/5) = 144*96

Y3 = 24*24*24

Y = 24

Thus no relation can be established.

Q5.
X= 2
Y= 9, -5/3
So, no relation can be established
