System
This Service Information affects ArtoscanC and C-Scan systems.

Purpose
Safety must always come first, for this reason and following this philosophy, we decided
to add some extra info and advises to the system mechanical installation procedure de-
scribed in the Installation Guide and some maintenance instructions to verify the ESAO-
TE parts provided to perform it and normally present in the Service Manual.
Consider them as an addendum to the current released Service documentation and be
advised that all the info present in this document will be inserted in the next release of
the Service Manuals.

Addendum to the Installation Guide Safety Chapter

To prevent an injury, the following approaches, at a minimum, should be implemented:
Make sure all workers are trained and, as needed, certified in the gear they use!
Avoid carrying loads over people. This is required to protect people from the hazard of a
falling load due to inadvertent failure of a crane, hoist, forklift, jacks or other machinery;
or operator error.
A suspended load can be moved using a crane, forklift or hoist. However, don't forget
that forklift masts and forks, hoists or empty buckets are also considered a suspended
load. When someone stands under any of these items they are at risk of injury. Be aware
as well of what is being moved, its swing, and stability.
For everyone’s safety, when lifting something with a hoist, jacks, crane or boom always:
- Secure the area where the load will be moved. Keep people out
- Be sure that nobody gets under a load
- Make sure that the load will not pass over anyone
- Make sure that signal persons or riggers are always in clear view of the operator.
- Use proper slings, lifting chain, and hardware to support load. Always limit the load to
the lowest rated part of the lifting system.
- Use tag lines, if necessary, to guide the load. Never use your body.
It is best to have a "10' foot rule". This requires that no one is allowed within 10 feet of
the area in which the load would fall if a failure occurred.
For overhead cranes and hoists, look at installing remote controls to allow operation and
movement of the machinery from a safe distance.
Establish specific hand signals for operators and employees and make sure everyone at
your facility understands what they mean.
Make sure that the load rating for slings, chains or straps is adequate for the rating of the
crane, forklift or bucket. If you do not know, it is not safe to use! Always limit the load to
the lowest rated part of the lifting system. Assure all slings, hoist, crane and machinery
components are inspected before use and in adherence with your preventive mainte-
nance and manufacturer's requirements.
Always place the forklift forks or sling on the ground when not in use, even when they are
not carrying a load.

ArtoscanC / C-Scan Rev: 1 Page 2 of 7

Guard against "shock loading" (activating lifting controls abruptly by placing excessive
forces on the lifting components) by taking up the slack in the load slowly. Apply power
cautiously to prevent jerking at the beginning of the lift, and accelerate or decelerate
slowly.
Check for proper balance and that all items are clear of the path of travel. Never allow
anyone to ride on the load or in the tractor bucket!
Keep all personnel clear while the load is being raised, moved or lowered. Operators
must watch the load at all times when it is in motion and, as needed, have a signal per-
son.
NEVER allow more than one person to control a lift or give signals to a crane or hoist
operator except to warn of a hazardous situation.
Never raise the load more than necessary or leave the load suspended in the air.
Never allow anyone to work under a suspended load.
Wear hard hat and not magnetic safety shoes during the entire installation procedure.
ACCIDENTS WITH SUSPENDED LOADS ARE OFTEN SERIOUS AND SOMETIMES
FATAL. DO NOT LET PEOPLE STAND UNDER ANY SUSPENDED LOAD!

Addendum to the Installation Guide, System Installation Chapter

Act as described in the Installation Guide for unpacking the Magnet crate, remove an-
choring plates, remove pallet, move the Magnet to the installation room.

BEFORE TO USE THE TROLLEY YOU HAVE TO:

Before every use, perform the following checks on the ESAOTE trolley and accessories:
Perform a visual inspection of the trolley and its accessories verifying the integrity, po-
sition, shape, presence of every parts especially the hydraulics component and the
bolts located at the end of the inner U forks and necessary to avoid unwished sliding
movement of the Magnet during transportation

ArtoscanC / C-Scan Rev: 1 Page 3 of 7

Verify tightness of all the trolley bolts, nuts and junctions of the hydraulic parts
Open the oil tank and verify the oil level. If necessary add oil until you feel up the tank.
Use only DIN 51502 Hydraulic Oil HLP 46
Move up and down the inner U fork by acting on the hydraulic circuit verifying that the
mechanism is correctly and properly working without stopping, excessive hardness or
pressure loosing

DURING SYSTEM INSTALLATION YOU HAVE TO:

During all the necessary procedure to lift up the magnet using the ESAOTE trolley,
never place your body (hand, arm, foot, leg, etc) in between of the trolley forks.

When reached the final installation position, before to mount the Magnet feet, place
something (obviously not magnetic) under the inner trolley U fork strong enough to

keep the Magnet in the raised even in case of fail of the trolley lifting mechanism (e.g.:
lost oil pressure due to a broken rubber pipe)
