10 (shown in red in the following figure)
If a different Shielding Cage (not ESAOTE) is selected its attenuation
must be 70dB or higher at 10 MHz.
The RF Cage has been designed in such a way that it can be installed
with minimal effects on the room infrastructure.
The RF Cage is not provided with the system: it has to be ordered.
The RF Cage is composed of modular elements made of perforated
aluminum panels that are attached to aluminum support frames. This
construction allows the RF Cage to use the same lighting and
ventilation supplied to the room. It eliminates the need for a dedicated
air conditioning system and possibly even internal lighting as well.
The sliding door available for access can be installed in central or
lateral positions.
All the parts are assembled with hardware that makes it easy to
disassemble and reinstall the RF Cage. The size and weight of the
modules make handling easy.
The RF Cage can be completely mounted from inside. Therefore, the
RF Cage can even be installed in corners, partitioned-off rooms or
rooms slightly larger than the RF Cage itself.

NOTICE Ensure that a craftsman is available for covering

the floor of the RF Cage with linoleum after siting
the magnet unit

Safety Notes
The magnet installed in the scan room is always under field and
attracts magnetic material. The apparatus and instruments to be
carried into the RF Cage should be non-magnetic. Gurneys,
stretchers or other large metallic objects, which may possibly be
attracted to the magnet, can be dangerous. It could be useful to
differentiate these objects from the standard furnishings through the
use of color-coding.
Items must not be brought into the RF Cage unless they are made of
non-magnetic material. In general, people must be prohibited from
entering the scan room. Local regulations require that warning signs
be posted with respect to possible malfunctioning of instruments or
pacemakers due to the fringe magnetic field. Preventive measures
must be taken with regard to this. A warning sign calling the attention
of the hospital workers and patients entering the scan room must be
posted (refer also to next figure). Carrying a watch, credit card, etc.,
into the RF Cage may cause them to malfunction.

The first step is to complete the Preliminary Site Survey Report (refer Tab. 6: Maximum RF Noise

devices or thyristor systems must not be used
The power supply for the room's air-conditioner of the room must be
either internally or externally since they can
selected according to the environmental conditions specified in Power

Requirements table.
Medical Tubing
The locations of medical tubing (oxygen and vacuum suction) will be
determined in accordance with customer requirements.
Electrically insulated tubing (nylon, polyethylene, Teflon, etc.) must be
used for applications that are routed through the RF-shielded walls.
Metal tubing should not be used for these types of applications since
the tubing acts as a RF antenna by introducing external noise into the
RF Cage.
Insulate the primary-side tubing from the RF-shielded room. An
insulated tube and a copper pipe must be connected using a joint that
is appropriate to both materials.
For the oxygen tube the maximum dimensions are 10 - 12 mm
(diameter) and 100 mm (length).

Electronics Unit Fig. 24: Electronics

The Electronics Unit contains almost all the System modules.

It must be placed outside the System RF Cage (or RF Cage) and is
connected to the Magnet trough the Filter Panel while is connected to
the PC Unit using an optical fiber cable for the data transfer.
It contains the System Insulating Transformer as well so it must be
connected to the mains in order to provide power to all the System
Components except to the PC Unit that is powered directly from an
Hospital power plug.
The Electronics Unit can be moved using its wheels, when the final
position is reached the four feet (already mounted as the wheels) can
be unscrewed until reaching the floor in order to get the Electronics
locked and levelled in the correct position.

Sources of Interference regarding installing the system at that location.

The Distance Check is a systematic analysis of existing sources of

magnetic interference and the distance between these sources and
the center of the magnet. Sources of magnetic interference may be
associated with one or more of the following:
a) AC 50 Hz or 60 Hz: high current cables, etc.
b) AC 50 Hz or 60 Hz: transformers, motors, etc.
c) AC 16.6 Hz or 25 Hz: power cables used for trains
d) Moving iron objects: cars, trucks, elevators, patient beds,
equipment, etc.
e) Switched DC: tram, subway, other MR-systems
f) RF noise: antennas, fans (even not magnetic), monitors, engines,
transformers, ups, phone switch boards, medical systems, etc.

NOTICE Fans can create AC noise even if they are not

magnetic.
