II. Articulation of Dilemma and Principles that have bearing to the case:

The Dilemma:

The central ethical dilemma in the story is deciding between the lives of the bridge
master's kid and the passengers on the train. If indeed the bridge master pulls the lever, every one
of the passengers will be safe, but his beloved son will die. Choosing either of the two options
will result in both disaster and redemption. It's a fascinating situation in which the father is
compelled to decide between passion and responsibility. In the situation of the bridge keeper, we
have seen a father who sacrifices his son to save many when faced with a moral dilemma.
Morally, it’s a losing situation. However, the Bible mentions God who sacrifices himself to save
the many who encountered the need of helpless people. Furthermore, there’s no moral dilemma,
just grace freely given.

IV. DECISION (with brief explanation)

The father sacrificed his son in order to save the passengers on the train. Sacrifice is not
an easy thing to do, especially when it involves the person who is the most important to us. He
allowed his son to join him while working, thus it is his responsibility to manage his work as a
father and employee. Tragedy could have been prevented if he had focused on both his job and
his son.
