What is Poison?
Any material that can hurt the body is considered poison. Poisons are frequently depicted in
books and movies as mysterious, enigmatic substances or compounds that, when ingested or
inhaled, result in severe illness or instant death. Although most poisonings in real life are less
spectacular, they can still have complex effects on the human body.
Types of Poisoning
Poisons include extremely hazardous substances that are not intended for ingestion or contact
with humans, such as cyanide, paint thinners, or common household cleaners.

Symptoms of Poisoning

• Some increase the breathing rate, while others slow it.
• Some cause pain, while others are painless.
• Some cause hyperactivity, while others cause drowsiness. Confusion is often seen with
these symptoms.
