Dear Teaching Associate,

I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to join your classroom for my first practicum! My name is
Aimee Baron, and I am in my third year as a mathematics and education student at the University
of Lethbridge. It has been a long two years of taking math classes and I could not be more
excited to be joining the education department - having the opportunity to learn from and engage
with students and you as a mentor, firsthand in the classroom.
I went to St. Joeseph’s school in Coaldale from pre-k to grade 9 and from there went to Catholic
Central High School in Lethbridge. To this day I’m told how non-stop I was as a child, never
sitting still long enough to get bored. I was involved with the school band where I played the
trumpet and outside of school, I took violin lessons. However, my passions leaned towards the
athletic side of things as I played most school sports and was involved on club teams for
basketball, volleyball, and soccer all the way through high school. I recently got into
backpacking with my family and friends and look forward to exploring more of the outdoors in
the future.
After graduating high school, I was drawn back to sports, missing the thrill of being in a gym and
reminiscing on the many positive memories I have had over the years. It was a momentous
change to only have university classes going on and I almost immediately looked for ways to get
involved again in my community. I am currently wrapping up my third season of coaching the
grade 8/9 girls’ volleyball team at St. Joseph’s School and assist with the girl’s basketball
program throughout the year as well. These roles have provided me with organization, planning
and leadership skills that I will build upon in this practicum, while also learning new techniques
along the way.
My parents have inspired me the most to enter the profession of teaching. My dad has always
emphasized being a lifelong learner and taught my sisters and I every opportunity he could,
mostly focusing on the outdoors and practical skills-I suspect this is where my love for the
outdoors has arisen from. My mother is a teacher herself, and has always said what a
challenging, but fun and rewarding profession teaching truly is.
I cannot wait to get involved and meet you, and all your students in the near future! With the
time I spend in your school I hope to make a positive impact in your classroom and learn as
much as possible during this exciting new adventure.

All the best,

Aimee Baron
