Statement of the Problem

This study aims to increase academic performance of Grade 11 Technical Vocational


Livelihood (TVL) students of Abra High School through reading strategies. Specifically, it seeks
answers to the following questions:
1. What is the academic performance of Grade 11 TVL students in the Senior High School
of Abra High School across language and communication subjects?

2. What is the level of the Reading Skills of the Grade 11 Technical Vocational Livelihood
(TVL) students along:
a. Problem Solving, and
b. Support Reading Strategy?

3. Is there a significant relationship between the academic performance and the reading
skills of the Grade 11 TVL students in Abra High School in terms of the aforementioned
parameters?
CHAPTER II

METHODOLOGY

This part of the study describes and focuses on the research design, population and locale of the

study, data gathering instrument, procedure and data collection, statistical treatment and ethical

considerations.

Research Design

This study will make use of the descriptive and correlative types of research. Descriptive parts

will be used to determine the academic performance of Grade 11 TVL students in the Senior High School

of Abra High School across language and communication subjects. On the other hand, correlative

technique will be used to determine the significant relationship between the academic performance and

the reading skills of the Grade 11 TVL students in Abra High School in terms of the aforementioned

parameters.

Population and Locale of the Study

This study aims to increase academic performance of Grade 11 Technical Vocational

Livelihood (TVL) students of Abra High School through reading strategies. This will look into

academic performance of Grade 11 TVL students in the Senior High School of Abra High

School across language and communication subjects and the level of the Reading Skills of the

Grade 11 Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) students along Noting Details, Predicting

Outcomes, and Making Inferences.

The Grade 11 Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) students of Abra High School will

serve as the respondents of the study. The total population will comprise of ___ students from
two different sections from which __ will come from section A and ___ will come from Section

B respectively.

Data Gathering Instrument

The researcher refers to the report on the Level of Proficiency (LOP) of the students to

look into the academic performance of Grade 11 TVL students in the Senior High School of

Abra High School across language and communication subjects. The respondents will be

identified from the result of level of proficiency. A teacher-generated questionnaire on reading

strategies will be administered to determine the level of improvement on the Reading Skills of

the Grade 11 Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) students along Noting Details, Predicting

Outcomes, and Making Inferences.

Procedure

The researcher will prepare a communication letter signed by her adviser and approved

by the research committee to seek permission from the school head, department head, advisers

and subject teachers of Abra High School to conduct the study. The nature of the analysis of data

will be taken in to getting the result of the level of proficiency of students from which the

respondents to be identified. The level of the Reading Skills of the Grade 11 Technical

Vocational Livelihood (TVL) students along problem solving and support reading will be

determined using a teacher-generated questionnaire. These will be recorded, analyzed and

described to come up with the academic performance and the reading skills of the Grade 11 TVL

students in Abra High School in terms of the aforementioned parameters as her study.
Statistical Treatment

In the conduct of the study, the following tools will be used to gather data for further

analysis.

1. Frequency count and percentages to determine the level of the Reading Skills of

the Grade 11 Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) students along problem solving

and support reading strategy.

2. Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the significant relationship between the

academic performance and the reading skills of the Grade 11 TVL students in Abra

High School in terms of the aforementioned parameters.

Ethical Considerations

In the conduct of the study, the researcher must consider the confidentiality and

anonymity of the process connected with the rights of beneficence and respect for dignity. The

right of the participants to withdraw during the conduct of the study will be considered.

Prior to the conduct of the study, the researcher will ask permission from the parents to

allow their children to participate in the study.
