1. What are the advantages of single line diagram?


2. Define self admittance and mutual admittance of bus admittance matrix.
3. Compare Gauss-Seidal and Newton Raphson methods?
4. Classify the various types of buses in load flow analysis and mention the known and
unknown quantities.
5. Define short circuit MVA capacity of a circuit breaker.
6. Draw the current envelop of a steady, transient and sub-transient currents.
7. Draw the sequence networks of a generator.
8. What is the need for symmetrical components in short circuit studies?
9. What do you understand by critical clearing angle?
10. What is an infinite bus system?

11. Draw the impedance diagram with all reactance’s marked in p.u for the Fig 11. Choose
a base of 50 MVA and 13.8 KV in the circuit of generator 1.

b) For the radial network shown in fig 13b, a three-phase fault occurs at F. Determine
the fault current and the line voltage at 11KV bus under fault conditions. Take base
MVA = 100 MVA.

14. a) Draw the positive, negative and zero sequence network for the system. Generator

pu, Generator G2 = 30 MVA, 11KV, X = 0.07 pu, Transformer T2 = 50 MVA 11/220
KV, X = 0.09 pu, reactance of the Transmission Line = 555.6 ohms. Consider base
MVA = 50 MVA and Base Voltage = 11 KV at G1.

15. a) Derive the swing equation and discuss its application in the study of power system
stability.

b) Two turbo alternators given below are interconnected using a short line,
Machine 1: 4-pole, 50 Hz, 150 MVA, 0.8 lag, 25000 kg-m2
Machine 2: 4-pole, 50 Hz, 150 MVA, 0.9 lag, 20000 kg-m2
Determine the inertia constant of the single equivalent machine on a base of 150
MVA.
