School Uniform

School is a second home for the students, besides learning book but also learning to have a good
personality and be responsibility. There are so many things that school actually can do to make the
students responsible. One of the example that school do is make a uniform for every students. How
uniform can make students be more responsible? Some people maybe think that uniform just a
clothes that we wear to school, but the fact is uniform is more than just a clothes. One of the
strategies that have been used by nation’s public schools to restore order in the classroom is to
provide school uniforms for every students. Principals believe that school uniforms bring a positive
effect, whether its in academic achievement or non-academic (Portner ).Popular press articles say
that school uniforms not only can bring a positive effect, but to control violence associated with
attending school, changes students behavior, reduce the focus on fashion competition (Harris,
1989).

Talking about uniform, do you really know what is uniform in general? As far as I’m concerned
uniform is a standard clothing that worn by a company or community this is to show the identity,
and also can reflects the activities that are involved in a community. Uniforms also one aspect that
can bring a positive effect for the company or community, specifically by build a positive image for
the community.
What is the use of uniform for the student? By wearing uniforms, student can lives more simple.
They no need to decide what to wear in every morning. Parent can also save a lot of money from
buying uniform instead buying every different outfits for everyday. According to Sir Hackberry, UK
Minister of education, “British families save £1200 every year because their child using uniforms for
school” (Palmer).

The uses of uniform is pretty much, but do you know the disadvantage by wearing uniform especially
in school environment. By using uniform they could cause bullying, they can bully kids belonging to a
rival school, because they can easily identify through the the school uniforms. Some uniforms maybe
expensive until parents can’t afford that, they also have to buy 2-3 set of uniforms for everyday, if
the students doesn’t using uniform maybe the outfits that the students use can also use for the long
time. But if uniforms use in several time especially the students that always change school. The last
aspect is the reason that maybe most of the students or people out there don’t want to wear school
uniform, the uniforms can take away individuality and freedom to express, learning to express
yourself or to be confident is most parents want their children to learn from their young age
(Akpan).

After all of my the statement above, I agree that company or community wearing uniform since the
uniform is having more benefits, but is not a must for the one who don’t want to wear a uniform
although they also have they own opinion. from my research, four out of five experts say that
uniform is not a must, one of the experts says that uniforms create a sense of equality but this
equality can also disengage students self expression through the outfits that is actually important
(Thomas).
