your results mean.

Symptoms of hyper & hypo thyroid

confusing. I have created this tool to help you identify
what your symptoms could mean.

HYPOTHALAMUS

Feedback Loop:
When T4/T3 are low, HYPOTHALAMUS
it send a message to
the brain to increase
TSH, when T4/T3 are
high it sends a
message to the brain
to decrease TSH
PITUITARY GLAND

PITUITARY
GLAND TSH or thyroid stimulating
hormone: TSH is a pituitary
hormone that stimulates the
thyroid gland to produce T4,
and then T3 which stimulates
TSH the metabolism of almost
every tissue in the body. It is
increased when you have
less T4/T3 (hypothyroid) and
decreased when you have
more T4/T3 (hyperthyroid)

your body gets.

W H AT YOU R L A B S M E A N :

TSH – THYROID
STIMULATING HORMONE
• IF TSH IS HIGH
This can be a sign that you are under-producing thyroid hormones
which is referred to as hypothyroid.

• IF TSH IS LOW
This can be a sign that you are over-producing thyroid hormones and
are hyperthyroid. It can also mean that your thyroid medication is
dosed too high. However, supplemental T3 or natural desiccated
thyroid hormone with T3 can artificially suppress your TSH, so if you
are not having symptoms this could be perfectly normal.

T4 – THE STORAGE
FORM OF THYROID HORMONE
TSH signals your thyroid to increase production of T4. It is circulated
throughout the bloodstream and stored in tissues so that it’s
available when needed.

Free T4 (FT4) is unbound, unlike total T4, and able to act in the body.

• IF F T 4 IS HI GH
It can indicate hyperthyroid, or overactive thyroid.

• IF F T 4 IS LO W
It can indicate Hypothyroid, or underactive thyroid.

FREE T3 – MANY PRACTITIONERS

REFER TO THIS AS “THE GAS”
When your body needs more power, it converts storage T4 into Free
T3, which is the active form of the hormone.

• IF F T 3 IS HI GH
Indicates that your thyroid is overactive or hyperthyroidism.

• IF F T 3 IS LO W
You may not be converting T4 to FT3 very well and you could have
hypothyroid symptoms even if your TSH and FT4 are within range.
One of the most common causes of this are gut infections like
Candida, SIBO etc. or poor liver support. The gut and the liver are
two important places in the body where the conversion of
T4 to T3 happens.

REVERSE T3 – MANY PRACTITIONERS

REFER TO THIS AS “THE BRAKES”
Part of T4 can also be used to create Reverse T3 (RT3), which is
another inactive form of thyroid hormone. RT3 can slow down your
metabolic processes, which is why it is referred to as the brakes.

• IF RT3 IS HIGH
You are likely converting too much T4 to RT3 and not enough to FT3.
This can cause hypothyroid symptoms even if your TSH and T4
levels are normal.

THYROID ANTIBODIES – YOUR IMMUNE

SYSTEM’S ATTACK ON YOUR THYROID
The majority of thyroid conditions are autoimmune which means
your immune system is attacking your thyroid. Hashimoto’s is the
hypothyroid form of autoimmune thyroid disease and Grave’s
disease is the hyperthyroid form.

• Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb).

• Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb).
• Elevated antibodies indicates that your
immune system is attacking your thyroid
and you have autoimmune thyroid disease.

1 SELENIUM
Selenium is necessary for proper thyroid hormone synthesis. Selenium also
helps to protect the thyroid from too much iodine. Some studies have even

keep their selenium levels up to par.

2 KELP
Kelp is a rich source of iodine. Not keeping enough iodine in your diet can
result in thyroid issues such as goiters but you need to be careful with how
much iodine you are consuming especially if you are not balancing it
appropriately with selenium. If you have a selenium deficiency, the iodine can
