It’s alive!

In this lesson, we’ll finally get to study character design and animation. Firstly,

we’ll go through color palettes and talk about the different color combinations

you can build, as well as some resources you can use for coming up with the

best palettes for your videos. After, we’ll move on to character design, where

I’ll show how, with a couple of simple shapes on Illustrator, you can come up

with infinite character combinations. Finally, we’ll learn how to prepare our

characters for animation, before passing to After Effects, where’ we’ll get to

the good stuff. I’m going to show you exactly my process in animating a

character and even some life-changing tricks that will push your skills forward.

In this lesson, I mention this useful script that helps you crop and tailor a

composition in After Effects to the elements inside it. Here’s the link:

Home assignment

Your home assignment for this lesson will be to animate your own character.

You’ll have several different designs to choose from and a list of potential

actions to animate. If you’re feeling particularly experimental, you can even

create your own character from scratch! Choose your action based on your

experience and what you feel most comfortable with. The goal here is to

solidify your character animation skills before moving forward with more

complex scenes.
