THE HEN AND THE OLD DUCK

Once upon a time, there was a farm located near a beautiful pond,
surrounded by huge trees that provided fresh and pure air.
There lived many animals, such as chickens, ducks, roosters, chicks,
horses, and a dog. Each of them was well cared for and received the
same treatment from their owner. Each one with a different personality,
different habits, and unique essence.
But, as in every place, there was someone who stood out among all the
other animals on the farm and that was the hen Lila, who was called "the
queen" for laying beautiful eggs, having beautiful chicks, and, in addition,
for having the most beautiful feathers.
Because of this, she looked down on the other animals, especially the old
duck named Donald, who is an elderly duck with a noble heart and an
intelligence that still lingers.
Years ago, he loved to do activities such as swimming in the pond,
foraging for food, and playing with his swan friends. These activities were
his favorite pastime. As time and old age passed, they became his
fondest memories.
Lucas the dog and Donald the duck were very good friends, every
morning Lucas the dog would set out to dig the earth so that his friend
could have his worms for breakfast, as he was very old. When suddenly
Lyla appeared, she didn't want to get her paws dirty however she wanted
the worms that Lucas had gotten for her friend, obviously the gentle dog
Lucas gave her some, still for Lyla what Lucas had given her was not
enough and she got very angry, because of that Donald decided to give
her what he had but she looked at him with contempt and left.
Lucas was angry because of Lyla's behavior, but Donald told him not to
worry, that it was okay, that nothing had happened, because, despite the
bad treatment that Donald had gone through, he simply decided to
forgive, he believed that the greatest act of love to someone is to forgive.
For years Donald has been in love with Lyla and although he always tried
to hide it in the eyes of his great friend, he could not hide it. Lucas always
opposed the feeling that his friend had because she was indifferent to
him, treated him badly, and despised him. Yet he never stopped loving
her.
But that day something changed inside him, that day Lucas his good
friend and he had a conversation by the stream, they talked a lot, about
many things but especially about lilac.
The next day, Donald, like every morning, got up very early and went to
the creek, but he was not only watching, but after so many years he went
for a swim, and dipped one or the other time in the water, he was
immensely happy, he had returned to feel what he had not felt for a long
time, to be alive.
Before this event, all the animals on the farm were surprised by what their
eyes were seeing. And for the first time, Lyla stared. For now, Donald was
not only swimming in the stream, but he was also singing. Everyone was
amazed by his incredible voice, for it was the first time they had ever
heard him sing. Everyone was clapping and praising Daffy Duck and
saying loudly "You are the best" "You are amazing, "You can do it,
Donald, don't give up" "Amazing" and other things to praise him.
As a result, Lyla was very envious of Donald Duck.
And from that day on, especially in the afternoons, Donald Duck would
teach the baby animals on the farm to sing. Although Lila began to
witness discomfort about Donald's popularity, she had to learn to live with
it, i.e., she had to learn to handle the situation
According to what was happening at the farm, Lyla began worrying about
his fame around the place. So, she began looking for strategies or
attitudes to get things back on track. Many times, without caring about the
consequences of her actions. Especially the day when all the animals
were gathered together and she asked for the floor to say the following:
"It seems that no one on this farm cares about me anymore. No one helps
me with my chores, no one helps me with my chores. If it goes on like
this, I'll be gone soon.
To which Donald replied, "Don't worry, Lyla. Maybe it's better if we work
as a team, so we can all benefit from it. Don't just give up if things don't
go your way. Sometimes, you have to learn to stand on your own two
feet, like I did despite my age."
So, after listening to Donald's proposal, Lyla reflected and realized that
Donald didn't do things because he wanted to be the center of attention
and that despite the attitude he had, he wasn't arrogant. It was just his
own personality. On the contrary, he was looking out for the welfare of
everyone on the farm.
MORALE:
The moral of this story is that we should never underestimate or
discriminate against people or animals because of their age, appearance,
height, and other characteristics. Rather, take the time to get to know
them in-depth, with their qualities and virtues. Also, not to be afraid of
beginnings, that is to say, to start again from scratch; and that age is not
an impediment to do the things you love. So, we must "Dream as if you'll
live forever. Live as if you'll die today"
