Exp.No.3.

Exp Name: DC Bridges measuring instruments

Aim of the experiment: Practical study of Wheatstone bridge applications in

measuring the unknown electrical component (resistance).

Theory:
Bridge: is an electrical circuit has four arms, this circuit use to measure the unknown
component values, such as resistance, inductance, capacitance.

The Wheatstone bridge is an DC bridge circuit used to measure the unknown

electrical components represented by the resistances.

The measurements are based on balancing two arms of the shown bridge circuit. One
arms of them includes the unknown component. Figure (1) shows the connection of
Wheatstone bridge.

Figure 1: Wheatstone Bridge

When the voltage across BD becomes zero by adjusting the known resistors R 1, R2
and R3 the avometer current Iv= 0. This is the balance case of the bridge. In this
case, Rx can be measured as:
𝑅2 ×𝑅3
At balance RX = as explained in the lectures.
𝑅1

The Vout = VB- VD

𝑅1
Where VB= Vin
𝑅𝐼+𝑅3

𝑅2
And VD= Vin
𝑅2+𝑅4

Procedure:
1- Connect the circuit that shown in figure (2)
2- Set R1=5Ω, R2=10, R3= Variable resistance from 0 to 1.
3- Set the voltage = 2 V
4- Find the unknown resistance RX

Figure (2): the wiring diagram of Wheatstone bridge

Discussion:

1- Find the voltage at point B?

2- Find the voltage at point D?
3- Find the Vout that depended on the difference between VB and VD?
4- Is this circuit balance? Why?
