Varuna conducted in Arabian Sea
The Indian Navy and the French Navy conducted the
Phase II of the 21st edition of the Varuna (Varuna
2023), the bilateral maritime exercise, in the Arabian
Sea. The 3 day exercise witnessed the participation of
guided missile frigates, tankers, maritime patrol aircraft
and integral helicopters by both countries.
✓ Varuna 23 was conducted in two phases. The
Phase I of 'Varuna-2023' was conducted off
India's Western Seaboard from 16th to 20th

✓ The 21st edition of Varuna marks the 25th year

RBI Issues Guidelines on Responsible
Lending Conduct; Revises Banks’
Investment Portfolio Norms, w.e.f April 1,
2024
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued guidelines on
Responsible Lending Conduct which directs
Regulated Entities (REs) to release all original
movable or immovable property documents, and

remove charges registered with any registry within
30 days of full repayment or settlement of
personal loans by borrowers.
These directions by RBI are issued under sections
21, 35A and 56 of the Banking Regulation (BR) Act,
1949, sections 45JA and 45L of the RBI Act, 1934,
and section 30A of the National Housing Bank
(NHB) Act, 1987.
✓ RBI also revised its guidelines on
categorizing the investments by banks, to
align them with global standards by
issuing RBI (Classification, Valuation and
Operation of Investment Portfolio of
Commercial Banks) Directions,
2023 which will be effective from April 1,
2024. With the implementation of revised
Directions, RBI (Classification, Valuation
and Operation of Investment Portfolio of
Commercial Banks) Directions, 2021
dated August 25, 2021 will be repealed.
