Design Option
◄ Adding a drawer to your wall cabinet is an easy way to maximize
storage for smaller items. The drawer consists of a box made from
four sides. A 1⁄4" plywood panel completes the bottom of the drawer.
Then a false front and knob is added to match the door.

How to Build it!
STEP-BY-STEP
GETTING STARTED
1. You can see the overall dimensions for the wall cabinet in the
drawing on the left. The first thing to do is cut the parts for the two
sides (Parts ‘A’), and the top, bottom, and fixed shelf (Parts ‘B’) as
shown in the Cutting Diagram.

NOTE: The holes shown in the cabinet sides are for the adjustable
F A shelf you’ll make later. You can drill these holes now, or wait until
the cabinet is assembled. The locations for the holes are shown in
the top left drawing on the next page. (Hole sizes are exaggerated
for clarity.)

BUILDING THE CASE

2. The two drawings on the right show you where to drill the
Pocket-Holes. The left drawing shows the cabinet top, the right
drawing shows the fixed shelf and cabinet bottom. The location for
the Pocket-Holes isn’t critical, but you’ll want to stay at least B
1" from each edge.

3. Now you can fasten the top to one of the side pieces with a
little glue and Pocket-Hole screws. The top should be flush with B
the top edge of the cabinet side and the front edge should be even B
with the front. The Kreg Right-Angle Clamp is handy to have for
this step.

4. Add the cabinet bottom just like you did the top, making sure
the bottom is flush with the bottom edge of the cabinet side and 1/2

the front edges are even. 3/4

5. The fixed shelf comes next. You’ll want to draw a line 5" up 1-1/4

from the cabinet bottom to position the fixed shelf so there’s 5”

ADDING THE CLEATS AND SIDE

C
6. The next thing to do is add the two cleats (Parts ‘C’) on the
back of the cabinet like you see on the left. Drill the Pocket-
Holes in each piece and fasten them in place. The back of the
cleats should be even with the back edge of the cabinet top
and bottom. The top, bottom, fixed shelf, and cleats are inset
from the back edge 1⁄4" to leave room for the back panel you’ll

fixed shelf. And you’ll want to maintain the 5" spacing between

8. If you haven’t done so already, you 2"

can drill the 1⁄4"- diameter holes that will

be used for shelf pins for the adjust-
able shelf. The location for the holes is 9 3/8"

shown in the drawing at right.

CABINET BACK AND SHELF

9. To complete the cabinet, cut the 1⁄4" plywood to size (Part ‘D’) and
use small finish nails and glue to fasten it in place.

10. Adding the adjustable shelf (Part ‘E’) is easy. Just install four shelf
pins, like you see at right, and cut the shelf to size.

F
FINISHING UP
11. You can leave the cabinet as is, if you’d like. However, adding
a door is easy and will hide the items you store in your cabinet for
a neater look. Look for hinges like the ones you see on the right.
Position them about 2" from each end of the door. You may want
to enlist some help to hold the door in position while you fasten the
hinges in place. Add a knob and you’re done!

12. To hang the cabinet on the wall, you’ll need to locate the wall
studs. Then drill through the two cleats and fasten the cabinet to the
studs using 21⁄2"-long Pocket-Hole screws. Use a minimum of four
screws to anchor the cabinet to the wall securely.
