1 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of these instructions is to standardize the appearance of diagrams, their
presentation and specially the markings on them. All suppliers shall comply with these
instructions.

These instructions apply to the process technical diagrams, but shall also be complied
with in preparing HVAC diagrams if applicable.

2 DIAGRAM TYPES
In the project for example the following diagrams are prepared:
− line diagrams
− flow diagrams
− PI diagrams
− route diagrams
− distribution diagrams

Line diagrams, if deemed necessary, are preliminary diagrams supporting
procurement and layout design. These diagrams present only the main equipment and
lines.

During flow diagram design only one base diagram of the specific process shall be
prepared. In beginning the diagram just presents the process connections (preliminary
flow diagram), but as engineering progresses it develops into a dimensioned flow
diagram and later on into a PI diagram.

All received information shall immediately be inserted in the diagrams. The diagrams
can, however, be plotted in simplified versions as required in each case.

Route diagrams present the commodities’ departmental connections. The

departments have been drawn on the diagram following the land use plan. All route
diagrams shall be created on the same base diagram.

Distribution diagrams present the commodities’ distribution within a department up

to the point where they shall be used. The distributions shall be drawn either directly
on the department layout or freely following the equipment arrangements.

3 FLOW DIAGRAMS AND PI DIAGRAMS

3.1 General
The flow diagrams shall be created with AutoCAD (to be compatible with AutoCAD
2000) complying with instruction S37 used by the client.

The purpose is that also suppliers, if they prepare final diagrams, shall comply with
the client’s standard.
16A2093-C0008

3.2 Diagram sizes

Diagrams shall be prepared in A1 height and in A1 or A0 length. Long diagrams shall
be of extended A0.

For distribution purposes the diagrams are plotted in A4 height and for revisions in A2
height.

3.3 Presentation of diagrams

The diagram presentation shall follow the process order; usually from left to right. As
far as possible, the purpose is to prepare the diagrams as compact separately issuable
drawings, for example presenting an entity of just one subprocess. These could be
utilized as such for example in defining display diagrams and water testing circuits.

The sheets of long diagrams (extended A0) shall be generated as individual drawings.
The lines presenting process or process control shall, however, continue at the same
elevation when moving from one sheet to another on the diagram. The connecting
points of standard-length A0 parts shall be marked with short vertical lines at the top
and bottom of the diagram to indicate the point in which the diagram parts can be
separated if required for filing or copying purposes or for other reasons. On the
connecting border of the diagram parts, a margin of 2 to 3 cm shall be left on both
sides on which no equipment shall be drawn and no process markings inserted. These
margins shall be reserved for allocating the address data of process flows and control
lines (Appendix III).

3.4 Use of colours

The flow substances shall be indicated with colours presented in the PSK standards
5821 and 5842. The colours shall comply with the PSK standard if applicable. The
colours of the flow substances shall also be used for describing valves in lines as well
as measuring and control devices.

The equipment and tank frames shall be drawn with black lines, but the same colour
as used for describing a flow substance can be used as filler colour for tanks.

All texts, reference lines and drawing frames shall be black.

Instrument symbols and control lines shall be green.

3.5 Address box

The address boxes of process and control flows shall always be allocated in the area
reserved for them at the ends of the diagrams or diagram parts. Only the client
drawing number shall be written in these boxes.

It is always mandatory to draw an arrow indicating the direction of flow/control.

Right before the box a mark can be added indicating where the flow/control goes or
from where the flow/control comes. Also possible equipment position number can be
inserted.
16A2093-C0008

4 FLOW MARKINGS
Balances shall be calculated to the design production of the department under normal
operating conditions. The flows shall be marked on diagrams without units but with
max flow within parenthesis.

For example

Slush pulp, lye:

fibre flow kg/s

consistency %

volume flow, balance l/s

volume flow, design l/s

24.0 - 3.0 - 800 (900)

If the units of a flow substance deviate from generally used units, they shall be written
next to this flow.

If necessary, also other process status information such as steam pressure,

temperature, etc. can be added on the diagram. These figures shall be provided with
units.

Flow data markings shall be inserted in several locations above the process flow or on
the reference line, and always together with incoming or outgoing process lines on
diagram ends. Incoming and outgoing process flows to/from diagrams shall be written
also in clear text indicating the flow substances and, if possible, also where diagram
sheets overlap.

5 UNITS
Units to be used are presented in project instruction 16A2093-L00013.

6 OTHER MARKINGS

6.1 Equipment information

Positions shall be numbered complying with the project instruction 16A2093-C0006.
The position number of main equipment shall be provided with the equipment name in
English and Spanish including additional information on the equipment. The additional
information varies depending on the equipment type. The equipment number shall be
framed and inserted in the equipment or in its immediate vicinity.

A reference line is used if necessary.

16A2093-C0008

6.2 Production marking

The design capacity of each department shall be marked on the diagram below the
distribution list. Appendix II.

For example

Design capacity:1700 ADt/D

6.3 Legend of flow markings

See Appendix II.

6.4 Other markings

See Appendix II.

7 TITLE BLOCK
Title block as presented in Appendix I/1 shall be inserted on diagrams. On diagrams
consisting of several sheets the title block shall be inserted on every sheet.

Also each diagram sheet shall have its own client drawing number in addition to the
supplier number.

The client drawing number is used in the diagram, also in part diagrams.

The checking and approval markings in the last part diagram apply to the entire diagram.

When in correspondence reference is made to a diagram, only the number of the last part
diagram shall be given as reference number.

During the engineering phase revisions shall be marked only on the last part at the client
drawing number.

Filling in the identification rows in the title block:

Row 1 Department name
Row 2 Diagram type name in accordance with customer type code
Row 3 Process presented on the diagram
Row 4 More specific name of part diagram (not mandatory)

Rows 1 to 3 contain the same information in all sheets of a long diagram.

See also instruction 16A2093-C0007.

8 KEY PLAN
The client drawing number, not the sheet number of each part, shall be inserted in the
key plan. Appendix III.
